Sony Xperia A2 has been officially announced by Sony Mobile Japan and will be released through the Japanese vendor NTT Docomo. The handset appears to be similar to the Xperia Z1 Compact which is called the Xperia Z1 f SO-02F in Japan. NTT Docomo has already started taking pre-orders for the Sony Xperia A2 SO-04F.
Sony Xperia A2 is not the Xperia Z2 Compact as was thought earlier. In fact most of its specs are similar to those of the Xperia Z1 Compact with some small differences. Common features of both include 4.3″ 720p LCD Triluminos display, 2.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 Quad-core processor, 2 GB RAM, 16 GB internal memory with microSD card, 2,300 mAh battery and 20.7 MP Exmor RS primary back camera. The Xperia A2 has a 2.2 MP front facing camera and can be used for video chats. Full HD videos can be shot with both the cameras.
The dimensions of the Sony Xperia A2 are slightly different with the Xperia A2 being thicker by 0.2mm at 128 x 65 x 9.7mm and it weighs 138g. The Xperia A2 has a matte plastic back while the Xperia Z1 Compact had a glass back.
Sony Xperia A2 smartphone is waterproof and IP58-certified and runs on Android 4.4 KitKat. It is available in four colors-Orange, Lavender, Grey and White. The phone is set to launch in middle of June this year.
