Working prototype of Aerofex’s hoverbike was demonstrated by the Californian Company back in 2012. The demonstration was a very big splash, but the company went quiet right after that. Now, the company is back with a bang. Aerofex has finally announced its hoverbike’s launch date. The hoverbike will be shipped in 2017 and it’ll cost about $85,000.
The company wrote, “Where you’re going, there are no roads.” “That’s why you need the Aero-X, a vehicle that makes low-altitude flight realistic and affordable. Flying up to 3 metres (10 feet) off the ground at 45mph (72kph), the Aero-X is unlike any vehicle you’ve seen. It’s a hovercraft that rides like a motorcycle — an off road vehicle that gets you off the ground.”
The current form of Aero-X is capable of carrying a load up to 310 pounds (140 Kgs). It has seat for two persons. On a full tank of petrol the hoverbike can run for 1 hour 15 minutes, and that tells you it’s not going to be an immediate replacement for your everyday bike or vehicle. The hoverbike occupies just the same area as a typical small car.
The design is user friendly with handlebar controls for intuitive steering and also it has safety features to keep the driver in safe flying height and speed, both the functions are fuel draining of course. This helps the Aero-X comply with the guidelines of the US Federal Administration which is a pilot’s license for anyone operating a vehicle above an altitude of 3.7 meters (12.1 feet).
And yeah, the Aero-X does fly over water surface too.
