The HP Touchpad was released in 2011. It is a 9.7 inch tablet and it runs webOS 3.0. The HP Touchpad was discontinued soon after. Later these tablets were sold at huge discounts. Until now there was no real reason to buy these tablets but it seems that Android 4.4.2 KitKat for has been released for the HP Touchpad. Its all thanks to a group of Android developers from xda-developers forums.
A developer by the name of Jcsullins released the CyanogenMod 11 for the HP Touchpad. This build is based on the Android 4.4.2 KitKat. Many features that were not working on other unofficial builds of the HP Touchpad are working on this release. These features include Bluetooth, HD video playback, and the front-facing camera. The battery is also able to run longer now.
If you have an HP Touchpad somewhere or if you have access to a cheap one than maybe you could give this a try yourself. The procedure for installing this is detailed by Roland Deschain in his forum post on xda-developers.
This build is a “Data Media Build” which means that it uses a different partitioning system than older builds. The Data Media Build takes longer to install but it also gives more free space where you can install apps and store data.
Since it is a new build, some bugs should be expected to occur. Sometimes activating the Bluetooth may crash the device. Some apps like Google Maps and Netflix have been reported to give problems. As time passes most of these bugs should be dealt with.
