Qualcomm is developing the Snapdragon 805 which is the company’s last 32-bit chip before it swings to 64-bit technology. This is a high end SoC that’s even better than the Snapdragon 800/801 and is expected to arrive on mobile devices this year end. Technically this SoC is having much potential however what about in real world circumstances?
Recently Qualcomm reference tablet with a Snapdragon 805 SoC undergone a test which concluded that it performs better than any ARM CPU/GPU combo chip released before it. The comparison devices used are as follows:
HTC One M8: Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset, Krait 400 CPU, Adreno 330 GPU
Samsung Galaxy S5: Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset, Krait 400 CPU, Adreno 330 GPU
Apple iPhone 5S: Apple A7 chipset, 1.3GHz dual-core CPU, Power VR G6430 GPU
Qualcomm reference tablet: Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chipset, Krait 450 CPU, Adreno 420 GPU
The GFXBench 3.0 results illustrated that Snapdragon 805 scored 17.4 frames per second which is higher than the second best result of 11.9 frames per second of the Samsung Galaxy S5.Undergoing the Manhattan benchmark, Snapdragon 805 scored 40.4 frames per second simply exceeding the second best result of 28.5 frames per second of the Samsung Galaxy S5.
The outcome showing the superior performance of the Snapdragon 805 compared to the high end chipsets out in the market today. The Adreno 420 GPU providing a rich and visually immersive graphics environment is the key factor. Another creditable aspect is its use of four Krait 450 cores with each core having a clock frequency of 2.7 GHz.
Adreno 420 Notable Features
- Desktop and console quality graphics on a mobile platform
- DirectX11 FL!!_2 pipeline, OpenGL ES 3.1 support
- Dynamic hardware tessellation & geometry shaders support
