Xiaomi Rumored to Launch Windows 10 Tablet in the Second Half of the Year

The last time that we heard about Xiaomi’s tablet is when the company launched Xiaomi Mi Pad in March 2014. As the tablet market sales has cooled down these few months, Xiaomi rumored to have given up in producing the device. However, in May 2015, Xiaomi’s CEO, Lei Jun responded to the rumors by confirming that the company was working on yet another tablet. However, there is not any detail released about the specifications or the features that is going to be implemented in the tablet.

Recently, there is another rumor that the next tablet from Xiaomi will come pre-installed with Windows 10 and it will be launched somewhere in the third quarter of the year. It is yet to be known that the upcoming tablet will run the Mobile version of the Full version of Windows 10. As Microsoft recommends that Windows 10 full version is to be used for tablets with display screen size of 8-inch or more, we can expect that Xiaomi’s tablet screen size will be at least measured at 8-inch.

On August 16, Xiaomi is reported to unveil the company’s own user interface, MIUI, which is built on top of Android and normally found in the company’s products. However, it is going to be interesting if Xiaomi is able to use this user interface on Windows 10 although the probability is lower. There is no official confirmation regarding the company’s Windows 10 tablet. More details will be released nearer to the launch date.  Stay tuned!

Xiaomi Arch with two curved edges

Xiaomi is reportedly taking a step forward by introducing a two curved edge smartphone named Xiaomi Arch.  It will be made on similar lines of Samsung’s Galaxy Note Edge- but with a dual-edge display.

Xiaomi can utilize one side of the edge to display notifications and controls. Also another edge can be used to to stream live information such as sports scores  and stock prices. The poster is stating that the Arch will be the world’s first dual curved screen smartphone.

There is still no confirmation from the Chinese manufacturer about the Xiaomi Arch. We are expecting Mi5 or MI4S smartphone and the MiPad 2 tablet at CES 2015 from Xiaomi, which are much spotted in leaked images over various websites.

Xiaomi MiPad2 leaked images

The rumors of Xiaomi’s MiPad2 tablet are already started trickling it. The sequel to MiPad is expected to feature the same 7.9-inch glass display employed on the MiPad, with a 2048 x 1536 resolution.

The leaked image(via Weibo) is a doubtful one since it showcases neither Xiaomi branding nor it is looking like a original MiPad. It will be powered by 2GB of RAM and 1.8GHz Intel Atom CPU inside, instead of quad-core 2.2GHz NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor employed on the MiPad. Xiaomi’s MIUI operating system is running on top of Android Kitkat 4.4.4. An update to Android 5.0 Lollipop will come down the road in 2015.

There is of course no official confirmation yet from Xiaomi about launching of MiPad2. With all focus coming on International CES scheduled on January 6-9, Las Vegas might be the perfect platform to unveil their new slate.

After Xiaomi, its OnePlus One getting a ban in India

Well, it is just a matter of 15 days after Chinese manufacturer OnePlus launched its much famous OnePlus One handset in India. However, the company has to receive it first setback as it has been banned for selling and further handsets due to the CyanogenMod row that it faces with its Indian counterpart Micromax.

Cyanogen is the exclusive partner of Micromax in Indian and following this there was a patent infringement as Micromax didn’t support the Cyanogen logo at the back of OnePlus and forwarded its disapproval to the Delhi High Court. After proper investigation of the patents, the court announced OnePlus a ban from selling its flagship handset any further.

Micromac claims that OnePlus “incurred major expenses for creation of a brand exclusivity for providing to Indian customers mobile phones with Cyanogen operating systems”, which will make it “suffer irreparable harm and loss if the defendants (OnePlus) are permitted to continue with their illegal acts”.

Few days back another Chinese manufacturer, Xiaomi which in absolutely no time gained tremendous popularity in India, has also been issued for suspending its sales following a patent infringement row with Ericsson relating to 3G, EDGE and AMR. You can get the complete details of this story here.

Here’s why “Chinese Apple” Xiaomi ’s phones have been banned in India

For Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi, the Indian market is its second largest one after China. However, its surging sales in India have received a sudden brake as it is facing certain patent issues in the country.

India’s Delhi High Court has passed an injunction order against Xiaomi banning it from importing, manufacturing, marketing and selling devices that infringe the Standard, Essential Patents (SEPs), in India. This order was issued after telecom equipment manufacturer Ericsson filed a patent infringement case against Xiaomi.

A report by SpicyIP says that the reason for granting of an injuction order is that Xiaomi failed to respond to Ericsson’s repeated requests for communications since July 2014. The patents in question may be the same ones for which Ericsson had filed cases against Gionee, Micromax and Intex. According to the report, the injunction order does not conform to international practice or to the local laws.

Xiaomi India’s head Manu Jain told CNet that,”India is a very important market for Xiaomi and we will respond promptly as needed and in full compliance with Indian laws. Moreover, we are open to working with Ericsson to resolve this matter amicably.

For Xiaomi, the Indian market is a fast expanding market and the company cannot afford such kind of bans. It is important to note that Xiaomi has put its expansion to other countries on hold in order to focus more on the lucrative Indian Market.

Xiaomi launched its operations in India recently in July 2014 and has already sold over half a million devices till the month of October. It sells online exclusively through Flipkart and its weekly sales are 65,000 to 100,000 units, which surged to 175,000 during the festival season of Diwali in India.

Samsung, Apple and LG are the top three smartphone vendors in Q3 of 2014, Chinese companies not far behind

According to Digitimes Research regarding the global smartphone market, Samsung, Apple and LG topped the list of global smartphone vendors in the third quarter (July-Sept.) of the current year 2014. However, Chinese companies are surging ahead in the smartphone race and it is worth noting that five out of the top 10 global smartphone vendors in the first nine months (January-September) of 2014 were Chinese suppliers.

The three companies Samsung, Apple and LG ranked topmost in the first three quarters of 2014. Chinese companies are not far behind. In Q3, Huawei is at the fourth spot, Xiaomi at fifth and Lenovo is at the seventh position. Although Xiaomi is ranked fifth globally, it tops all other vendors in terms of growth in shipments. Xiaomi has achieved an on-year shipment growth of almost 200%. On the other hand ZTE, which was quite ahead in the list in 2013, ranking eighth among the lot, is no longer in the top 10.

Samsung is leading the pack now but the same cannot be said for it in future because its business is declining. Some of its new smartphones including the Galaxy S5 didn’t do as well as expected. However, the Korean giant is developing a fresh strategy to tackle this and is also making some changes in the top management.

Apple meanwhile is showing strong growth in revenues in the last seven quarters and has posted the highest Q3 revenue ever this year. Its latest smartphones iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus have also been quite successful in the market. According to a latest rumor, Apple is working on developing a new type of camera with a two-lens system on the back camera.

Regarding LG, the company is on a high, recording 39% year-on-year growth with record 18.8 million handsets shipped during the last quarter ended September 2014. Its latest flagship, the LG G3 has done quite well, improving LGs market share. Sales and operating income in Q3 of 2014 were the highest for the company since Q3 of 2009.

Digitimes estimates that the global shipments of smartphones in 2014 will be 1,219 units showing a growth of a little less that 30% over the previous year. In 2015, the global smartphone shipments are predicted to rise by 22% and reach 1,488 billion units, major contributors to the growth being the emerging markets.

Xiaomi Can Become The Largest Selling Smartphone Maker On Earth

Xiaomi came into the smartphone market like a storm. With their clever sales strategy and exclusion of paid marketing, they were able to undercut the competition in terms of cost while providing top-of-the-shelf performance in their phones and tablets. If you thought it was amazing that Xiaomi sold 100 million units, wait till you hear what they have in store for the future.

Xiaomi was funded in April 2010 and released its first smartphone in August 2011. Unlike other Chinese smartphone companies, Xiaomi had an edge in terms of price, performance, and quality bundled with their clever sales tactics that put them a step above the rest.

Three years after Xiaomi was found, it become the world’s 3rd ranked smartphone company in terms of sales in the third quarter of 2014. Number 1 being Samsung, followed by Apple. Xiaomi did all this without leaving Asia which is pretty amazing.

Although Xiaomi entering the western market is hindered by the certain possibility of litigation issues regarding patents filed by both Samsung and Apple, it seems that Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun is still confident about Xiaomi’s future in the global smartphone market. He feels that Xiaomi can climb up to the No. 1 spot within five to ten years.
