Xiaomi teases Redmi 1S successor, a Dual 4G LTE version for January 4 launch

Chinese phone maker Xiaomi has teased about a successor to its popular smartphone Redmi 1S on its Weibo account by uploading a picture and claiming that the company will release its new version on January 4, Sunday. The picture has 3 women holding colorful smartphones with their back panels showing. These back panels resemble the panel seen in the TENNA listing image of Redmi 1S successor.


A 64-bit handset, touted to be the successor of Xiaomi Redmi 1S recently passed through AnTuTu and TENNA. According to the leaked specifications, the new smartphone has two SIM card slots and both will support 4G LTE connectivity. The current dual-SIM Redmi 1S does not support LTE.

Other features of the new Redmi 1S successor include a 4.7-inch (1280×720p) HD display, LTE enabled 64-bit quad-core Snapdragon 410 chipset clocked at 1.2GHz with Adreno 306 GPU, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage expandable up to 32GB via microSD card. It will sport an 8MP rear camera and a 2MP front-facing one, and will be powered by a 2,200 mAh battery.


The handset will run Android 4.4.4 KitKat with MIUI 6.0 and will support GSM, WCDMA, TD LTE and LTE FDD networks. The device will  have dimensions of 134×67.21×9.2mm and weight if 132g (26g less than the current Redmi 1S).


The Redmi 1S successor is supposed to go on sale in January itself, soon after its launch.
