Motorola Moto G(2015) Info Pricing Released with Expected Amount

There is no surprise when the leaked price list from US Cellular showing the price for Motorola Moto G(2015) off contract surfaced. It is valued at $179.99, not far from the Moto G(2014) version which was released last year at $179.  Eventhough the device only scheduled to be officially announced on July 28, there are a lot of leaked pictures showing around as well as its promo video.

It seems that there are not many difference between Moto G(2015) version and Moto G(2014) version. Moto G(2015) is rumored to be running on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop and will be featuring a new Messages app from Motorola as well as Moto app which allows users to use voice command and Moto display. An enhancement from the app that is found in the previous version of Moto G(2014).

The design of Moto G(2015) will be similar to the previous model except for the textured rear cover and long strip that is found at the back of the device which most probably made of metal. Moto G(2015) is rumored to have a 5-inch screen display size with a FHD resolution and powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor, a 8GB of internal storage which can be expanded to 128GB by inserting additional microSD card and a 1GB RAM. There is also possibility that there is an option of a 16GB internal storage with a 2GB RAM.

Other specifications such as a 13MP rear camera, 5MP front camera and a 2470mAh battery life size.  With all these specifications and the price, it seems like Moto G (2015) can be considered as a budget phone.

Latest leaks of Moto G (2015) renders confirm 1080p FHD display and 2GB RAM, possibly Snapdragon 610

With less than a week left for Motorola’s media event where it is expected to introduce some new handsets including the third generation Moto G, a retailer from Switzerland has released some official press images of the upcoming device. Along with the images of the black and white Moto G (2015) handsets, its specifications have also been leaked.

The soon-to-be-released mid-ranger Moto G (2015) has appeared in the product listing of Swiss retailer Digitec on its website as Moto G (3rd Gen) 8GB White and Moto G (3rd Gen) 8GB Black.

According to the listing on the Digitec site, the Moto G (2015) will feature a 5-inch Full HD display with 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution and a pixel density of 441ppi. Under the hood will be an octa-core processor with a clock speed of 1.7GHz and Adreno 405 GPU. The listing doesn’t mention the Soc but it will possibly be the Snapdragon 610.

Motorola-Moto-G(2015)-renders-2Motorola-Moto-G(2015)-renders-4

The handset will have a 2GB RAM but only 8GB of internal memory inside it but fortunately, it will have a microSD slot for expanding the memory up to 128GB. It will also feature Cat.4 LTE and run Android 5.0 Lollipop. The device will be powered by a 2,070 battery, same as its predecessor but this figure could merely be a placeholder because the dimensions of 141.5 x 70.7 x 11 mm and weight of 149grams listed are also exactly the same as that of the 2nd gen Moto G.

The price of the Moto G (2015) mentioned by Digitec is 235 CHF which is equivalent to $245 or €225.  The price may be this high due to the addition of Swiss taxes. We will know for sure on July 28th when the handset is unveiled. So stay tuned!

New renders of Motorola’s upcoming Moto G (2015) leaked online

Motorola’s upcoming third generation Moto G has been popping up in the news lately. Last month, the Indian online retailer Flipkart had inadvertently listed the device on its website which was of course taken down later. Then last week a video of the handset had leaked, revealing its specs. Latest leak reveal new photos of the Moto G (2015) in white color.

Moto-G-2015-leaks-2

TechnoBuffalo has received some images of the white handset from an anonymous tipster but there is no other information about specs available with it. The Moto G (2015) is model XT1540 also codenamed “Osprey” and earlier leaks indicate that this Motorola handset will sport a 5-inch HD display with resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and 320 dpi. It is expected to be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 chipset and an Adreno 306 GPU. Other rumored specs include 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal memory, a 13MP rear cam and a 5MP front-facing cam. The third gen Moto G will apparently be a mid-range handset supporting 4G LTE and will come with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop pre-installed.

Moto-G-2015-leaks-3

There is no word when this Moto G (2015) will hit the shelves but judging by the frequency of leaks, its launch doesn’t seem very far away. Its predecessor the Moto G second gen was launched in September last year and it is possible that the company launches the third gen Moto G somewhere around that time.

Flipkart teases new Motorola Moto G (3rd Gen) smartphone

Both the generations of Motorola Moto G have done quite well in India and now it looks like the Moto G (3rd Gen) is on the way. Although there has been no news about the launch of the said smartphone, Flipkart listed it on its website which was quite surprising. However, the listing may have happened by accident since it has now been taken down. It is also possible that Flipkart was just teasing or testing the waters.

moto-g-3rd-gen

The online listing on Flipkart was first spotted by gadgetraid. The listing said that Moto G (3rd Gen) model number AP3560AD1K8 with 8GB internal storage was available in White color but no image was displayed there. No other details have been mentioned.

moto-g-3rd-gen-specifications

Rumors suggest that the Moto G (3rd Gen) will be a powerful upgrade to the 2nd Gen Moto G. The device will apparently have a 5- or 5.2-inch display having a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and a 64-bit Snapdragon 610 chipset with quad-core 1.7GHz CPU and Adreno 405 GPU. It will have a 2GB RAM and would support 4G LTE connectivity.

We haven’t heard any rumors about the camera, battery and other specs of the Moto G (3rd Gen). Although there is no official word about when the new handset would be launched, Flipkart listing suggests that it may be soon.

There are also speculations that the device may be introduced in June or July this year. Motorola had launched the 1st generation Moto G in December 2013 and the 2nd generation Moto G in September 2014.

Motorola 3rd Gen Moto X 16MP rear camera rumored to come with OIS

Just a few days back we advised you about the leaked specs and features of Motorola’s 3rd gen Moto X. Rumors suggested that the device would be having a 16MP rear camera featuring Clear Pixel technology and a 5MP front-facing snapper for selfies and video chats. Its predecessor, the 2nd generation Moto X had less powerful 13MP rear cam and 2MP front cam.

We now have fresh leaks giving details about the 3rd gen Moto X camera. According to a report by STJSGadgets, the new Moto X will have a 16MP rear camera having the Clear Pixel technology as mentioned earlier. The camera will also have Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) to stabilize the image if the camera moves during photography.

The camera will also have 4K as well as slow motion recording capabilities. For instance, if you are recording in 1080p mode, you will be able to record at up to 120fps or when recording in 720p mode, you can record at up to 240fps. This is a new feature that Motorola is offering in its 3rd gen Moto X.

However, until Motorola makes it official, all this is mere speculation and it is better to take it with a grain of salt. As such, Motorola can be expected to add these features to the next gen Moto X because it is the company that has built Nexus 6 which has OIS in its back camera.

The device is expected to be launched in September this year.

Motorola’s Possible Next Android Wear Device with Codenamed Smelt Comes with Higher Resolution Display

Moto 360 can be considered as the first generation Android Wear device even though it was marketed rather late compared to Android Wear devices like Samsung Gear Live or LG G Watch. Recently there is a sneak peek of what could be the next follow up for Moto 360 as posted by Lenovo CEO on a social media. Last year, Lenovo bought Motorola for $2.91 billion.

There is a tip from a popular app developer who noticed that there is an unknown Motorola-built Android Wear device pinging his Android developer console. The signal comes from Mundelein, a city near to Motorola’s HQ in Chicago, Illinois. It turns out that the device has the codename “Smelt” and is running Android 5.1. On top of that, it comes with 360 x 360 screen resolution and powered by “armeabi-v7a”.

As the original Moto 360 comes with codename “Minnow”, it is only make sense if the device codename “Smelt” could be the next follow up for Moto 360. As “Smelt” can be defined as “small silvery fish”. The upcoming device could be more premium than Moto 360 according to the image leaks.

However, the official Motorola Android Wear device is Moto 360 as of now. Hopefully, we can see the real product for the image some time later this year. We can only wait and see.

Motorola said to have infringed an MMS patent owned by “patent troll”

Smartphone maker Motorola has been found to be guilt of infringing patent that is related to the MMS technology which is used for multimedia texting on mobile devices. The patent is currently an intellectual property of company known as Intellectual Ventures. After back in Feb 2014, this is the second time both the companies are meeting in the court.

Apart from declaring Motorola to be guilty of infringing the patent, that company has also been slammed for illegal use of patents related to wireless bandwidth. The two companies would now be facing each other in the court to resolve this issue. This is what an executive who handles cases for Intellectual Ventures had to say:

“We are encouraged by today’s verdict. As we look ahead to the next trial, we remain committed to defending inventor rights and protecting the interests of our investors and customers.”-Melissa Finocchio, chief litigation counsel, Intellectual Ventures.

Motorola was earlier sued by the company two time in 2011 and in 2013. The company has also alleged Motorola of using its other technologies without permission.

Motorola shows off Moto X’s 4K recording capabilities through a video captured by strapping it to a Drone

Moto X (Gen 2) was released by Motorola in September this year and is an impressive upgrade over the original Moto X. Its primary camera has been upgraded to 13Mp capable of Ultra HD 4K (3830 x 2160p) video recording.

Motorola is now showcasing the 4K video shooting capabilities of the Moto X’s camera through a new video.  The company gave the Moto X (gen 2) smartphone to a professional drone operator who strapped it to the drone and took it for a ride over San Francisco. The smartphone’s camera captured aerial 4K video where its features such as auto-exposure and auto-focus also did a great job taking some great footage in both light as well as dark areas.

Since the Moto X weighs much less than the DSLR camera that is usually used, the drone’s flight was 5 times longer. Motorola has edited some of the captured footage in 2K (1080p) and posted the video.

In the video shown below, you can see the stunning 4K imagery captured by the Moto X’s camera in the San Francisco Bay area:

Motorola reportedly working on Nexus 6-like DROID Phablet with Snapdragon 810 for Mid-2015 release

Motorola launched two high-end phones back-to-back in October this year. The first was the 5.9-inch Nexus 6 Phablet in collaboration with Google and the other was the 5.2-inch DROID Turbo with some awesome specs. Motorola was later acquired by Lenovo from Google. We now have rumors that Motorola is working on a better version of the Nexus 6 and will market it as a DROID Phablet that will be released next year.

According to rumors, Motorola’s new DROID Phablet will be similar to the Nexus 6 in terms of physical construction but will have much improved specifications. The device is supposed to sport a 5.9-inch Quad HD display with 1440×2560 pixels resolution just like the Nexus 6. It will however have the latest Qualcomm 64-bit Snapdragon 810 processor and 4GB RAM on board as against 32-bit Snapdragon 805 and 3GB RAM of the Nexus 6. In addition, the device will have a whopping 4000mAh battery but the camera specifications are not known. The DROID Phablet will probably run Android 5.0 Lollipop.

According to the source, the upcoming Motorola Phablet will be launched somewhere in mid-2015 through Verizon. There is also a chance that the device might not be sold as a DROID Phablet but as some other Motorola brand. Improved specs will surely make it a great device to own!

Lenovo acquires Motorola Mobility from Google for $2.91 Billion

Xiaomi’s glory at the third spot has been short lived. With the acquisition of Motorola, Lenovo has displaced Xiaomi to become the world’s third largest smartphone maker. Lenovo has announced that it has completed the acquisition of Motorola Mobility from Google.

Lenovo gets the Motorola brand for approximately US$2.91 billion which includes $660 million in cash, $750 million in 519,107,215 newly issued Lenovo stock and the remaining US$1.5 billion as a three-year promissory note to be paid to Google.  Google keeps the majority of Motorola’s patents portfolio while Lenovo gets the Motorola brand, trademark, license to patents and the mobile business.

Motorola’s portfolio consists of notable smartphones such as Moto E, Moto G, Moto X and the DROID family, not to forget the Moto 360 smartwatch. Motorola will be a wholly owned subsidiary of Lenovo and retain its headquarters in Chicago, US. Motorola’s 3500 employees the world over will now be part of Lenovo.

Upon acquisition, the chairman and CEO of Lenovo, Yang Yuanqing said:

Today we achieved a historic milestone for Lenovo and for Motorola – and together we are ready to compete, grow and win in the global smartphone market. By building a strong number three and a credible challenger to the top two in smartphones, we will give the market something it has needed: choice, competition and a new spark of innovation.

Google’s CEO Larry Page said:

Motorola is in great hands with Lenovo, a company that’s all-in on making great devices.

Motorola had come up a lot in the past couple of years and under Google, it has focused on emerging markets and developed affordable smartphones Moto G and Moto E. Motorola’s latest offering is the DROID Turbo and it has built the Nexus 6 for Google. The company is also poised to come out with a new Tablet after the takeover by Lenovo.

Rick Osterloh, President and COO of Motorola Mobility says in his blog post, “Together we will go farther, faster. With an impressive portfolio of smartphones, wearables and PCs, our two companies will be uniquely positioned to push the boundaries of choice and value, and bring exciting new experiences to people everywhere.

The New Nexus 6 Has Android L But Can It Swim?

People are expecting great things from Android devices these days. Now that apple is no longer the trend setter, its the Android operating system and Android flagship devices that are getting all the attention. One such small detail is that the next Nexus flagship device is water resistant. Yes, it can resist water, but it can’t swim… yet

Well, we’ll need an app for that in the future but as for now, we’ll just have to settle for water resistant. In case you were wondering how much water can I pour on my future Nexus 6, being water resistant and being water proof are different things entirely. Being water proof means that the said device can be submerged into water for a while and it won’t get wet on the inside at all. Water resistant means that the device can be splashed with water and such (like when someone spills a glass of something) and it won’t get bricked.

This means that just like the MotoX pictured below, the Nexus 6 phone by motorola will have some limitations with this feature. When you go to Google’s official Nexus website, you’ll see that under water resistant it just says yes. There’s no specific data.

But hey, at least the Nexus 6 will be safer around children and clumsy adults. Something is better than nothing after all.

Motorola Acquisition by Lenovo to Bring the Brand Back to Tablet Market

It has been awhile since we saw a new tablet released from Motorola in the physical shop or even heard news that the company is coming out with a new tablet. The last tablet from Motorola was released in 2011 but it was not performing well in the market. Well, all these are going to change. Even HTC which went through the same situation as Motorola, is coming up with the new tablet, Nexus 9. Nexus 9 marked as the return to the tablet segment by the Taiwanese manufacturer. This is interesting since Motorola is also planning to rejoin the tablet market segment too.

If you have not heard the news, Motorola is taken over by Lenovo. The acquisition is expected to finalize by the end of this year.  According to Lenovo’s CEO, Yang Yuanquing, when the acquisition process is done, the company will release new tablets under the brand “Motorola”. The better news is that only tablets which are going to be released but also new smartphones under the same branding.

The CEO also revealed that it is planning to release new products using the “Motorola” or “Lenovo” branding, depending on the popularity level of the branding in the countries where the product is going to be launched.  For example, if in country “A”, Lenovo is more popular then it will use “Lenovo” branding while if in country “B”, Motorola is more popular then it will user “Motorola” as the branding.

There are no further details on the tablets specifications yet. It is not confirmed whether Lenovo going to release both Windows or Android tablet segment or both. We just need to patiently waiting for the next update.

Nexus 6 built by Motorola; Launching next week

Google’s next Nexus smartphone, likely to be called Nexus 6 or Nexus X, has become one of the most eagerly anticipated smartphones of the year. A new Wall Street Journal report corroborates what has been widely expected based on earlier leaks, that the upcoming Nexus smartphone is codenamed ‘Shamu’ and is being built by Motorola.

WSJ reports adds that the alleged Nexus 6 aka Nexus X has been codenamed ‘Shamu’ after a killer whale and will sport a 5.9-inch screen with higher resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels. The other features should include a quad-core Snapdragon 805 processor, 3 GB of RAM, 12 MP rear camera, and a 3200 mAh battery.

The reports also stated that Google is planning to launch the latest version of Android -“Android L”, at the same time with the new Nexus. If the recent rumours  and leaks turn out to be true, then Google’s next flagship will be the ‘largest’ Nexus branded smartphone in terms of screen size. The Nexus 5 sports a 5-inch display, and the new Nexus will be bigger than the iPhone 6 Plus (5.5-inch) and Samsung Galaxy Note 4 (5.7-inch).

Google has been silent about the launch of the upcoming Nexus 6 . However, recent reports have suggested it might be unveiled on October 15, or October 16 (that’s next week). Prices for the handset may start at $419. Doi-Toshin will be here to let you know more about this as soon as new details are available.

Nexus X rumoured pre-installed with new Google Apps Folders

There are a lot of rumors about Nexus X or Nexus 6 from sources close to Motorola since a month ago. It is not decided yet whether the name will be Nexus X or Nexus 6. However, Google and Motorola were planning to avoid the Nexus 6 because of possible legal issues.

The device is rumored to feature a 5.9-inch display running on full QHD (2560 x 1440) resolution and will have a Snapdragon 805.  On top of that it is also will be having a 13MP rear camera, 2MP front camera and pre-installed with Android 5.0.  The design will look like a bigger version of Moto X.

The new addition to the existing rumor is that the rear camera will have optical image stabilization (OIS). The two grills on the front of the Nexus will be stereo speakers and the battery will be 3200 mAh.

According to undisclosed sources, the power and volume buttons will be moved to the lower part of the body. The home screen will be installed by default with Google Apps, but there are some interesting changes. There will be an additional of Drive folder which will include the Drive app, as well as the companion Docs, Sheets, and Slides apps.  Moreover, there will be a Play folder which housed Play Music, Books, Movies & TV and Newsstand. There is also a possibility of new messaging apps. Our best bet is that it is Hangout app. Since Google announced that the company will be changing the icon with a green color theme.

There is further detail on pricing and release date. However, the rumor claimed that it will be released around mid-October.
