Motorola 3rd Gen Moto X 16MP rear camera rumored to come with OIS

Just a few days back we advised you about the leaked specs and features of Motorola’s 3rd gen Moto X. Rumors suggested that the device would be having a 16MP rear camera featuring Clear Pixel technology and a 5MP front-facing snapper for selfies and video chats. Its predecessor, the 2nd generation Moto X had less powerful 13MP rear cam and 2MP front cam.

We now have fresh leaks giving details about the 3rd gen Moto X camera. According to a report by STJSGadgets, the new Moto X will have a 16MP rear camera having the Clear Pixel technology as mentioned earlier. The camera will also have Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) to stabilize the image if the camera moves during photography.

The camera will also have 4K as well as slow motion recording capabilities. For instance, if you are recording in 1080p mode, you will be able to record at up to 120fps or when recording in 720p mode, you can record at up to 240fps. This is a new feature that Motorola is offering in its 3rd gen Moto X.

However, until Motorola makes it official, all this is mere speculation and it is better to take it with a grain of salt. As such, Motorola can be expected to add these features to the next gen Moto X because it is the company that has built Nexus 6 which has OIS in its back camera.

The device is expected to be launched in September this year.

Apple gets patent for a new Camera invention that could bring True Zoom Lenses to future iDevices

Apple has recently been granted a patent for its new camera invention having a real zoom lens system that we may see in future iDevices such as the iPhones, Macs and TVs. In order to bring a true zoom lens mechanism with moveable lenses to iDevices, a new type of light splitter has to be integrated inside the iSight camera.

The light splitter was invented by Apple back in 2011 but the company has got patent for it only recently. The new digital camera system includes a light splitter cube. This cube splits the incident light falling on it from the camera scene into 3 color components which are picked up by 3 image sensors so positioned, that each sensor receives 1 color component. The color splitting cube helps to improve contrast and enhance the visibility of the subject, giving good images even through fog, clouds, rain or smoke.

This highly technical camera mechanism also consists of a folding mirror that acts as a deflector. This mirror can be tilted or rolled by an automatically controlled actuator. This is a part of the Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) mechanism present in current iDevices. In this system, the deflector mirror is moved instead of moving the sensor or lens as is done in the traditional system.

Such an OIS system has been implemented in the new iPhone 6 Plus. OIS works with an A8 chip, a gyroscope and a M8 motion co-processor that measures the motion data and causes the lens to move precisely, compensating for the hand shake in low light. The long-exposure and short-exposure images are fused together which helps to reduce movement of the subject and give great images even in low light.

The third feature of the camera system is the true zoom lens. In the image below, we can see the deflector #20, the zoom lens #21 and the light splitter #2 which are housed together inside a camera module.

The zoom lens consists of one or more moveable lenses whose position is controlled automatically by a motorized actuator. This may be a true zoom lens that maintains focus even when its focal length or magnification is changed. Apple is still working to build a high quality true zoom lens system.

According to Apple, such a camera module could be fit into iDevices and other portable wireless gadgets including PCs and TV monitors. Well, we certainly hope to see this new camera technology in iDevices soon.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 rumored to be coming with a 16MP OIS camera, flexible display and premium metal body

This September, at the IFA event in Berlin we could possibly see the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 breaking the covers officially. The Galaxy Note 4 is rumored to come with many novel features for the first time even though there is no leaked image of the device appearing on the web till date. Based on the recent reports coming from Korean publication ET News, the Galaxy Note 4 is considered to come with a premium metal body design along with a 16MP primary with optical image stabilization (OIS) and a flexible display (Probably the YOUM display unveiled earlier this year).

However, the same report says that the Galaxy Note 4 will also be launched in a plastic version apart from the metal-body. This means that users will have two options to choose in between.

The most exciting news about the Note 4, however, has got to be about the flexible screen. Last year’s Note 3 came with a 5.7-inch screen, which is already fairly huge, and this report says nothing about the likely size of the Note 4, but it does mention that Samsung has ramped up production of flexible panels by 50%, anticipating the launch.

One more thing that has been revealed in this report is the Galaxy Note 4 is likely to sport a 16MP primary with features like OIS. The report shows that that the Korean giant will use its own sensor used in its recently launched Galaxy S5 where OIS is considered to be a new addition. Here is a video of the ‘YOUM’ display released earlier this year.

Galaxy Note 4 tipped to feature 12-megapixel OIS camera

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is already gearing up to be an exciting device of an later 2014 release. The South Korean news website believes that the Galaxy Note 4 will be the first Note handset with optical image stabilisation, and a slightly downgraded 12-megapixel camera.

It is contradicting the rumors flying around of a 20 MP ISOCELL unit or the 16 MP one the Galaxy Note 4 popped up with on AnTuTu’s database. The 12 megapixel OIS device will offer a thinner frame coupled with a 3.7 MP front-facing unit. The alleged specs include a QHD (2560 x 1440 pixels) display of 5.7″ diagonal. The camera stays an uncertainty, we’ve heard of it being an OIS-enabled Sony- manufactured unit.

Many people were expecting the OIS camera unit to feature on the Galaxy Note 3 but to their disappointment, that did not happen. So people are now expecting the same from current flagship phablet Note 4.But this too appears a distant dream, as dropping the resolution to 12 MP seems unlikely.

Speculations are suggesting that Galaxy Note 4 unit will be manufactured at Samsung’s Tianjin factory, which could produce upto 3 million units per month. The Galaxy Note 4 is set to unveil in the first week of September at the IFA annual conference in Berlin and will be available in the market by September 25th.
