Alleged photo of Sony Xperia Z5 and Z5 Compact showing fingerprint scanner leak

A photo purporting to be that of the next Sony Xperia flagship in the Z series and its compact sibling has surfaced on Twitter. The picture has been posted by leakster @vizileaks. This could be the as yet unannounced and unconfirmed picture of the Sony Xperia Z5 and its sibling the Xperia Z5 Compact.

The photo shows three smartphones. The phone on the right which is nearest to us is the larger phone possibly the Xperia Z5 and the one on the left which is farthest from us is the compact model. Between the two sits the iPhone 6. Both the Sony Z series phones show an OmniBalance design. A fingerprint scanner can be seen on the right side of the larger Sony Xperia phone and its volume control has been shifted downwards. You can see it in the picture below.

If Sony follows its tradition of outing two flagships in a year, we can expect the company to unveil the Xperia Z5 before the year end. Sony has introduced the Xperia Z4 and Xperia Z3+ in the first half of this year. In 2014, the company had launched two smartphones, the Xperia Z2 and the Xperia Z3.

Now the leaked photo shows us a glimpse of what Sony’s next flagship in the Z series will look like.

Sony Xperia C5 Ultra Official Launch Considered as Selfie Smartphone

Sony has just officially launch Sony Xperia C5 Ultra earlier today among other smartphone models. The device can be categorized as a mid-range smartphone which have an almost bezel-less design as well as thin as it is measured at 8.2-mm with width of 79.6mm which hopefully not so difficult to hold. On top of that, the device offers great selfie picture results.

Sony Xperia C5 Ultra comes with a 6-inch IPS LCD display screen with resolution of 1080 x 1920. The device is running on a 64-bit octa core MediaTek SoC which is clocked at 1.7GHz, an ARM Mali760 MP2 GPU, a 2GB RAM as well as a 16GB internal storage which can be further expand via microSD card up to 200GB. Other features such as a 13MP front camera which comes with an autofocus Exmor RS sensor with focal length of 22mm and 88 degree field of view, a 13MP rear camera with also a Exmor RS sensor with slightly different focal length and degrees of view at 25mm and 80 degrees respectively as well as a 2930mAh battery size. Unfortunately, the camera does not have optical image stabilization feature and just rely on the software to keep the frame steady.

Sony Xperia C5 Ultra, unfortunately, does not come with water resistance and stereo speakers feature, unlike the other models. The device will have three color options, black, white and mint green. It will be pre-installed with Android 5.0 Lollipop as well as Sony’s own custom Android Skin which has a feature to minimize the user interface so that it can be navigated single handedly.

The device will be released in selected emerging market starting from August this year and there will be two variants of the device, one that support dual-SIM and one that only support single-SIM capability.

Sony Xperia C5 Ultra and Xperia M5 leak fully before official announcement

Sony had posted a teaser on Twitter about new Xperia device announcement on August 3. However, two Sony smartphones Xperia C5 Ultra and Xperia M5 have already leaked ahead of the official announcement via Russian website hi-tech.mail.ru that has published several images as well as preview of the said two handsets.

Although the article on the Russian website has since been removed, the images and specs of Xperia C5 Ultra and Xperia M5 are already circulating over the net. Both the smartphones have been photographed alongside each other. The details about the Sony Xperia C5 Ultra which was known earlier as Sony Lavender, have leaked earlier but the Xperia M5 has not been heard of before.

Sony-Xperia-C5-Ultra-and-Xperia-M5-3

Let’s have a look at the specs of both the phones:

 Xperia C5 Ultra

Sony-Xperia-C5-Ultra-1

The Xperia C5 Ultra is the bigger of the two and is quite imposing with its 6-inch display but attractive all the same. The 6-inch display has the resolution of 1080p and the handset has very thin 0.8mm bezels. Because of such thin bezels, it doesn’t appear much bigger than the iPhone 6 Plus which has a 5.5-inch screen.

Other specs include 1.7 GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6752 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage expandable with microSD card, 13MP cameras with LED flash at both rear and front sides and a 2930 mAh battery. The battery capacity seems a bit on the lower side looking to its display size.

The C5 Ultra will have dual-SIM support and NFC and will run Android Lollipop. It is expected to be priced at about 21k to 22k Rubles which comes to around 340 to 360 Dollars.

Xperia M5

Sony-Xperia-M5-1

The Xperia M5 is the smaller of the two but costlier, sporting a 5-inch 1080p IPS display. It looks like a low-cost sibling of the Xperia Z3+. It has the 2GHZ octa-core MediaTek Helio X10 processor, 3GB of RAM, 16GB of internal memory expandable with microSD card and a 2600mAh battery.

The handset will have a 21MP rear camera with f/2.2aperture, fast auto focus, 5x digital zoom and 4K video recording. The front-facing camera would be 13MP. The Xperia M5 will probably have Sony’s new Exmor RS IMX230 sensor on board and be the device that can take “split-second photos” which Sony teased recently.

It will have a dual-SIM variant and will be IP68 certified for dust and water resistance. The cost of Xperia M5 would be about 24k to 25k Rubles which comes to around 390 to 405 Dollars.

Both the new smartphones Xperia C5 Ultra and Xperia M5 will come in two color variants – White and Black.

Sony teases new Xperia smartphone coming on 3 August, can take “split second photos”

Sony has just teased a new Xperia smartphone on Twitter that is capable of capturing “split second photos”. The handset will arrive on 3rd August. The teaser hints that the highlighting feature of this new Xperia smartphone from the Japanese electronics giant will be its camera. The image shown in the teaser is very unique and compelling.

Since the camera seems to be he usp of the new device, we hope that it features Sony’s new Exmor RS IMX230 stacked image sensor that will offer better image capturing and performance. Motorola’s newly announced Moto X Style (Pure Edition) sports this sensor.

As for the new device that Sony is going to launch on August 3, if we are to hazard a guess, it could be the company’s upcoming Xperia C5 smartphone. Images and specifications of the phone have already leaked. The handset will sport a 5.5-inch screen with 1080p resolution and 2GB of RAM. It will be powered by a 64-bit octa-core MediaTek MT 6752 chipset.

The most important feature of Xperia C5 is its cameras. The device will have a 13MP rear camera as well as a 13MP front-facing camera making it a great phone for selfies. That is why we think that the new phone to be announced by Sony on August 3 may be the Xperia C5. Anyways, we will know soon enough in a couple of days.

Sony tipped to launch two high-end smartphones Xperia S60 and Xperia S70 soon

Earlier this month we had heard rumors that Sony would be unveiling its next flagship, the Xperia Z5 in September. Fresh rumors out of Germany now suggest that the Japanese electronics giant is planning to introduce two new high-end Android handsets around the time too.

The German website winfuture.de reports that the two new Android smartphones are Xperia S60 and Xperia S70 which Sony will be releasing before the IFA conference in Berlin. According to the report, the dealers say that these two devices will be available across Europe as early as mid-August, and one even named August 18 as the date of delivery.

The Xperia S60 and Xperia S70 will mark the beginning of a new series of smartphones from Sony, the ‘S’ series.  Very few details of the handsets are available as of now except that they will have 32 Gigabytes of internal memory. They will be available in four color options each. The Xperia S60 will come in black, white, yellow and coralie flavors while the Xperia S70 will be available in black, white, gold and green variants.

As for their price, both the Xperia S60 and Xperia S70 are said to be absolutely high-end with the Xperia S60 costing somewhere between €650 and €700 ($715 and $770) and the Xperia S70 ranging between €780 and €840 ($855 and $925). However, there is no official confirmation about these devices so better to take it with a pinch of salt.

Sony seeking beta testers in Sweden to evaluate its new Concept Android Software

Sony has developed new concept Android software for its Xperia devices and the company wants its users to try out this new software. According to Sony, the new Android software version offers a “fresh take on the Sony user experience” and invites users to “Contribute to shape the future of Sony’s software Input into making our processes, products and services better”.

Sony-Xperia Z3-beta-testing

Sony seems to have totally revamped its Xperia UI and wants users to test and evaluate the new concept Android software build for Xperia Z3. The company is inviting Sony Xperia Z3 users in Sweden to join a select group to use this new software and give feedback. This will help the company to get a “better understanding of how the software can be improved”.

Sony Mobile Sweden has done similar trials before for testing new Android updates on their flagship smartphones, like they did the beta testing for Android Lollipop for Xperia Z3 last year. But this time it is the trial of a whole new concept Android version, so maybe Sony is preparing to bring out a totally fresh Xperia UI for its new flagship, say Xperia Z5.

The beta testing activity will begin on July 27 and last up till September 13 and is open for Xperia Z3 owners (not the compact Xperia Z3 model) living in Sweden. They can restore their current Xperia software once the trial period is over. So if you fit the above criteria and want to be a part of it, head over to this link to sign up.

Sony Lavender Will be Launched as Xperia C5 Ultra After a few Name Changes

Sony Lavender which was initially named has been going through a few name changes such as Xperia T4 Ultra or Xperia C5 Ultra. However, it is reported that at the end, the latest smartphone from Sony will be launched as Sony Xperia C5 Ultra. As the name “Ultra” suggests, we should expect another variant of Xperia C5 (without the “Ultra”). However, there is no official announcement regarding this.

Sony Xperia C5 will come with bezel-less design. It is reported that the handset will be the first device from Sony to come with no side bezels. The device will have a 5.5-inch Full HD display screen size with a 1080 x 1920 resoluion and 401ppi. It will be powered by 64-bit MediaTek MT 6752 Octa core processor which is clocked at 1.7GHz and Mali-T760 as the GPU processor as well as 2GB RAM. The handset will have two cameras, with front camera of 13MP and a LED flash unit while the rear camera also will have a 13MP. Sony Xperia Z5 Rumored to be Unveiled in September in Japan

Sony has released a few splendid smartphones within this year such as Sony Xperia Z4 and Sony Xperia Z3+. Recently, there is a rumor surfaced that Sony is going to announce not only one but three additional smartphones to the Xperia line. They are Sony Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 compact and Xperia Z5 Ultra with Xperia Z5 is expected to be unveiled in Japan during September.

There is not much confirmation regarding the details of the upcoming smartphone, however, it is rumored that it will be powered up on Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC, a 4GB RAM, a fingerprint scanner as well as a 4500mAh battery size. On top of that, it is also expected to feature Sony’s latest 21MP Sony Exmore RS IMX230 CMOS sensor which is able to support 4K video recording and HDR capabilities. Unfortunately, the OmniBalance design remains which might be a disappointment to some Sony Xperia users.

Previously, there was a similar rumor on Sony Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Ultra and Xperia Z5 Compact which was circulated in April mentioning on a 4GB RAM as well as a 1440 x 2560 QHD screens on all the three new models. However, the only difference is that this rumor mentioned that the upcoming three models will have a completely different design instead of having the OmniBalance design.

A leaked image of what is supposedly to be Xperia Z5 in April also suggested that the body would be made of metal and it would be using the latest Type-C USB port. However, since there is no official confirmation, we just have to wait until the real product was released.

New Sony E5663 with 4.6” 1080p display spotted in benchmarks, could it be the Xperia Z4 Compact?

Looks like Sony will soon be offering a successor to the Xperia Z3 Compact. A new Sony smartphone with model E5663 has been spotted on a couple of benchmarking sites and its specs are quite interesting. If the specs are to be believed, the new handset appears to be the next gen Sony Xperia Z4 Compact.

The benchmark data shows that the new Sony E5663 will feature a 4.6-inch display with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels which is an upgrade over Xperia Z3 Compact’s 4.6-inch 720p resolution screen. This is also the first less than 5-inch Sony phone to sport a 1080p display.

Sony Model E5663 on GFXBench:

The Sony E5663 will be powered by a 64-bit octa-core MediaTek ARM MT6795 processor clocked at 1.95GHz and PowerVR Rogue G6200 GPU. Other specs include 3GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, 20.7MP rear camera and a powerful 13MP front-facing camera. Till now we have seen front-facing cameras only as high as 5MP in Sony devices. So this would make a great selfie phone. The device will run Android Lollipop.

Sony model E5663 has also appeared on the Indian import-export tracker site Zauba.com which shows 2 units of the device to having landed in New Delhi from China. So it is possible that the handset may be launched in India.

First Sony Xperia Z3+ Video Ad highlights its two-day battery life

After announcing the Xperia Z3+ for the global audience, Sony has now come out with a video commercial highlighting its two-day battery life with the tagline “Xperia Z3+ – Embrace the power to explore with up to 2 days battery life”.

The ad shows how the new smartphone’s battery can last up to two days and it is also waterproof so that you can take it to the swimming pool with you. Although Sony has downsized the Xperia Z3+ battery to 2930mAh from 3100mAh in Xperia Z3, it is still promising a full two days of battery life.

Sony-Xperia Z3+-2

To be honest, the Xperia Z3+ is a bit of a let down for Sony fans as it has very few feature upgrades over its predecessor Z3. The 5.2-inch FHD Triluminos IPS display with 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution, 3GB RAM, 32GB internal storage and the 20.7MP primary camera are all the same.

Sony-Xperia Z3+-3 Sony-Xperia Z3+-4

Its processor is more powerful though. The new Xperia Z3+ has a 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 CPU and Adreno 430 GPU, while the Xperia Z3 has Snapdragon 801 chipset and Adreno 330 GPU. The front-facing camera has been upgraded from 2MP to 5MP. The Xperia Z3+ is also slightly thinner than the Z3.

Sony announces Xperia Z3+, the global version of Xperia Z4 announced for Japan

After Sony launched the new flagship Xperia Z4 only for its domestic market Japan, everyone was wondering what Sony had in store for the rest of the world. Well, the suspense is finally over. The Japanese tech major has quietly introduced its global version, the Xperia Z3+. It is just a change in name but more appropriate really, as it is only an incremental upgrade over the previous flagship Xperia Z3.

Sony-Xperia-z3+-2

Xperia Z3+ has the same 5.2-inch FHD Triluminos IPS display with 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution. However, internally it features several upgrades. The handset is powered by the latest 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 octa-core CPU and Adreno 430 GPU (Xperia Z3 has Snapdragon 801 and Adreno 330).

Memory at 3GB of RAM remains the same. Built-in storage in Xperia Z3+ will be 32GB, the 16GB option available in Xperia Z3 has been discarded. Rear camera is the same at 20.7MP with Sony Exmor sensor but the front-facing camera gets a bump from 2MP to 5MP giving better selfies. Both the cams have 25mm wide angle lenses. The battery has been downgraded from 3,100mAh in the Z3 to 2,930mAh in the Xperia Z3+. Even then, Sony is promising a battery life of 2 days.

Sony-Xperia-z3+-4

Dimension-wise, it is slightly slimmer at 146.3 x 71.9 x 6.9 mm and also a little lighter at 144g. Small changes have been made in its design. The microUSB port is flapless but the Waterproof/dustproof certification of the device remains the same at IP65/IP68. The front speakers of the handset have been shifted to the edges. The handset will come with Android 5.0 Lollipop pre-installed.

The Xperia Z3+ looks to be a stop-gap arrangement to appease ardent Sony fans. The next flagship will be a real top-of-the-shelf model which may be expected later this year. The new Xperia Z3+ will be released in June but its pricing has not been revealed yet. It will be available in four colors – Black, White, Copper and Aqua Green. A dual SIM variant will also be available at a later date.

Revealed: Some Sony Xperia devices have hidden FM transmitter feature

Do you know that some of the Sony Xperia smartphones have a hidden FM transmitter feature which could be enabled? The old Nokia N95 was a great smartphone and among other features, it also boasted of a built-in FM transmitter. One could broadcast music through it or play music from it on the car stereo wirelessly by tuning the radio to a certain frequency. Unfortunately, today’s smartphones lack this feature.

However, a few of the Sony Xperia smartphones have been found to have a hidden FM transmitter functionality inside them. Phones such as Sony Xperia Z and Z Ultra, Xperia Z1 and Z1 Compact, Xperia T and Xperia SP are among them. Their hardware allows for enabling the FM transmitter feature.

To do that, you have to first install the FM Transmitter app called SpiritTransmit available on Google play Store and it costs $19. However, support and updates for a few years is included in that cost. A free trial version is also available.

Sony Xperia-SpiritTransmit-for-Android-3         Sony Xperia-SpiritTransmit-for-Android-2

Its salient features are as under:

  • The app works only on rooted Sony devices from late 2012 to early 2014 using Qualcomm FM chips and an internal FM antenna pin is used.

  • The Spirit Transmit version v2 is based on Android 5.0 Lollipop.

  • Headphones need to be plugged into the Xperia smartphone because their wire acts as the antenna for transmission. You can send music from your smartphone to your car stereo or home radio this way.

  • Audio range is limited and for best results, the transmitter antenna (headset cable) and receiver antennas must be close. You can even wrap them together.

Well, if you have any of the above mentioned Sony Xperia phones, you can give it a try if you want.

The unannounced Sony Lavender is supposed to be a mid- to upper-range selfie-centric device boasting of a 13MP front-facing camera with Sony’s IMX214 Exmor sensor and LED flash. It will also have a 13MP rear camera with LED flash.

Sony-Lavender-leaked-images-2

The handset will apparently have an FHD display bigger than 5.5-inches and its resolution would be 1080 x 1920 pixels. It will be powered by a 64-bit octa-core MediaTek MT6752 CPU clocked at 1.7GHz and a Mali-T760 GPU for graphics. Bezel-less Sony Lavender smartphone in the works, to feature 13MP rear and front cameras

New smartphones are now coming with smaller and smaller bezels and look quite elegant. Sony’s upcoming smartphone dubbed as Sony Lavender, is almost bezel-less on the sides. A render of this unannounced smartphone was leaked a few days ago by the famous leakster @upleaks.

@upleaks has once again come out with further details about the Sony Lavender. The said phone belonging to the E55 will apparently be a selfie-centric one having a powerful front camera. Yes, the handset is going to feature two 13MP cameras – a 13MP camera at the rear and another 13Mp camera at the front, both with LED flash.

Other specs of Sony Lavender include a 64-bit MediaTek MT6752 octa-core 1.7GHz processor and a 2GB RAM. Its display is supposed to be an FHD one and according to earlier leaks, its resolution would be 1080 x 1920 pixels. Size of the display is not known but it will allegedly be larger than that of Sony Xperia C4 which is already quite big at 5.5-inch.

Sony Lavender will also have dual SIM variants and will run Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box. There are no other details available for now.

It is to be noted that Lavender is just a code name and the actual device will have a different name. However, there is no official word from Sony as to when this smartphone is going to be released.

The leaked front image of Sony Lavender is not anything great and does not give a correct picture of what the device will actually look like. As for the back picture, @upleaks says:

Can’t share back pic for now, but it’s like HTC One E9(Camera lens is not so big)”.

We will let you know about this new device of Sony as soon as we learn more about it.

Lack of Innovation in Android Smartphones Manufacturers

It seems like there is lesser things to look forward from Android-based smartphone. Most of the newly launched smartphone running on Android are having more or less the same feature as the previous version. When we talk about innovation, it means the idea which is out of the box and meant to revolutionized the device be it hardware or software.

Lets us take a look at Samsung. Recently, Samsung has just released two new smartphones which are Android based, Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. Instead of adding new functionality to the device while keeping the rest the same, Samsung has revamped the design of Galaxy models for the two new models. It is no surprise that the company aims for 70 million plus global sales. However, the two models do not have microSD slot as well as removable battery which is seen as a small sacrifice.

HTC One M9, another smartphone which is running on Android has the same design as the previous model with small updates here and there. Sony is releasing Xperia Z4 soon. Apparently Xperia Z4 will have the same design as Xperia Z3 but with enhanced processor. Huawei which is going to release the new P8 comes with a slimmer body, updated camera, better display, longer lasting battery life and new processor. It seems like Huawei is doing a lot more than the other two smartphone manufacturer.

LG has made headlines with its LG G3 which was released last year as it comes with a Quad HD display. This year, eventhough it is not confirmed yet, LG is going to launch G4 which comes with tweaked display, bigger battery and new design options.

Above are some of Android smartphone manufacturers which its name is popular in the industry. It seems like it is reasonable to just release one new model each year while looking for other innovative ideas to be implemented in the device.

Sony Xperia A4 officially introduced in Japan, design and specs quite similar to Xperia Z3 Compact

After almost exactly one year after Sony launched the Xperia A2 in Japan, the Japanese tech major has introduced another device in its Xperia A series, the Sony Xperia A4. Interestingly, Sony seems to have given Xperia A3 a miss.

sony_xperia_a4-11

Sony’s new Xperia A4 is pretty similar to its Xperia Z3 Compact that was launched launched by the company last year. The A4 has a compact design, measuring 128 x 66 x 9.1mm and weighing 129g. It is also dust and water resistant like most Sony mid- and high-range devices, certified to be IPX5/8 for dust and IP6X for water resistance.

sony-Xperia a4-12

Specs of Sony Xperia A4 (SO-04G) include:

  • 4.6-inch Triluminos display with 1280 x 720 pixels resolution

  • 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor
