Biggest Apple iWatch leak till now

We are just few hours away to get a glimpse of wearable product iWatch from Apple. Alleged CAD drawings of various iWatch components have been leaked online on Reddit, showing a comparison of parts from the P2B to EVT stage.

Here are the detailed specifications of the upcoming iWatch surfaced online:

  • iWatch to have a microphone and speaker

  • Device will support Siri

  • Flexible multi-touch screen to add a new dimension to the UI

  • No lightning connector or other ports – all wireless

  • Battery will last over a day

  • Waterproof to about 20 meters

  • 8 models of the smartwatch: 4 colors; 2 sizes

In the below images, you can see a large round hole –that’s where the sensor plate will allegedly reside and that part will be in contact with the body. This, certainly revealing the iWatch’s ability to take measurements like the heart rate.

You can also observe that there is a missing part on one of the sides of the watch, and that’s where the watch’s crown will be positioned. Finally, this latest leak claims that Apple plans to kick off iWatch mass production in January.

Interestingly, the leaker calls this ‘the most complex and expensive product to manufacture to date’. We would not be surprised if that’s indeed true. Apple is all ready to launch its next generation iPhone 6, iPad Air 2 and possibly iWatch tonight at Flint Center, California.

Apple iWatch will have OLED display and NFC connectivity

The Apple iWatch will sport a flexible NFC connectivity and OLED display that could facilitate its use for mobile payments as a sort of a digital wallet, according to reports by the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times.

The information appears five days before the scheduled launch of iWatch on September 9th. It appears in the publications that Apple has traditionally trusted to lift the cover off its upcoming devices to some extent and raise excitement about the upcoming event.

7

So what will the iWatch be?

According to New York Times, iWatch wearable device will come in two sizes having a flexible screen protected by sapphire glass. It is rumored of coming in 1.3”, Pebble-sized and a larger, 1.5” one model. Apple has allegedly even thought of solar charging for the iWatch, but has eventually opted for wireless charging instead.

Moreover, we have been constantly hearing that the wearable will be able to record health and fitness related information. Additionally, the main focus of Apple  is the tremendous accuracy of those measurements: Apple has reportedly “put an enormous amount of time and capital” to have the sensors tracking “much more accurately than existing fitness devices”. All of that  tracking data will be pushed to Apple’s HealthKit app, and the iWatch will also be able to sync with the newly announced Handoff feature for data sharing.

The other big reports coming from the Wall Street Journal is that iWatch will support a near-field communications (NFC) chip, most likely for mobile payments. There is also a rumor of Apple collaborating with American Express, Visa, and MasterCard for an iPhone-powered payment system.

NFC’s utility is not limited to just mobile payments: you can use a device like an NFC iWatch instead of your subway card, just for turning on lights, or swiping it to clutch a ticket, or easier pairing with devices. NFC-enabled iWatch could enable Apple Inc. to move into home automation domain.

Apple is planning to start accepting pre-orders for the device way prior to it actually arrives on the market. There are speculations about iWatch releasing in early 2015, despite earlier promises by Apple CEO Tim Cook to bring a new category of devices this year.

Apple Wearables Finally!

Apple might not be the first to venture in the wearable market, but we can be certain it is most likely to rein the field. With a huge number of the population obsessed with brand preference, Apple is brewing victory in this avenue. Earlier to enter this way was Samsung designing the Samsung Gear. Suffice it is to say, the Samsung-Apple rivalry continues! Samsung Gear against iWatch. Other competitors are Android Wear, Pebble, OneWatch, Timex Ironman, etc.

What can we expect from Apple?

iWatch

There is a buzz going on that Apple is working on multiple wearables. Thus, we would not be left with no options when the iWatch is made available to the public. The brand, however, retains it high end quality and we are looking into Apple wearables worth around $400. The anticipated launch would be this coming September 9, although shipping of products would not be until 2015.

As of now, there are very little details presented about the Apple wearables. We are not even expecting the pricing information in the September 9 event. Unfortunately, we can only rely to reports, not necessarily confirmed, and to previous stories. Talking previous statements, it was supposed that Apple is crafting gender particular smartwatches, and would even go far as to catering sport and fashion. Swatch is also rumoured to be one of Apple’s main collaborator. That last piece of information might have raised some eyebrows, but until Apple makes an announcement we are yet to know.

Apple sends an invite for September 9 event

With all the hype surrounding Apple’s upcoming flagship iPhone 6, the device is expected to be announced next month on September 9th. Well, this rumors seem to be almost right as Apple has send out an press invitation for an upcoming event on September 9th.

At this event, we expect the much rumored Apple iPhone 6 to break covers. If rumors are to be believed, Apple is also likely to announce is much awaited iWatch smartwatch. Yesterday, Samsung announced its another Tizen Based Gear S while LG announced its second Android Wear the G Watch R. Moreover, we can expect Moto 360 to arrive anytime soon. Last month we saw Apple approaching Tag Heuer VP for iWatch sales, which is a sufficient proof that the smartwatch might be coming soon.

Well, Apple has its own way of giving out surprises at the launch and with all the leaks pouring out from different sources, Apple might come up with something beyond a sapphire glass. Moreover, it is also possible that Apple might roll-out the iOS 8 announced earlier this year to its devices on September 9th.

Upcoming Apple iPad Air 2 rumored to come with with 2GB of RAM

Recent report coming out from China shows that Apple is going to lift up the RAM memory of its upcoming iPad Air 2 to 2GB. The existing Apple iPad Air come with 1GB of RAM memory. Even the 7.9inch iPad Air mini that comes with Retina display hosts 1GB of RAM memory and now the successor to it is expected to receive a considerable bump with 2GB of RAM.

Both the upcoming Apple tablets i.e. the Apple iPad Air 2 and the sequel of iPad Air mini are expected to have a TouchID fingerprint sensor that will be embedded into its home button. Additinally, both the tablets are expected to feature the next generation A8 processor.

Currently, the arrival of  iPhone 6 is making much noise in the industry with the flagship likely to be announced on the 9th of September if sources are to be believed. Well, the following month of September, Apple is expected to make number of announcements like the 5.5inch iPhone 6, Apple iPad mini with Retina display 2 and the iPad Air 2.

Additionally one more device that is much awaited from the Apple camp is its much touted iWatch. If sources are to be believed, the Apple iWatch is expected to have a 512MB of RAM memory and 8GB of NAND flash. The iWatch is most likely to pair up with Apple devices like iPhone and iPad. However, for the moment there are no strong indications about the launch of this wearable.

Google releases 4 Android Wear commercials

Android Wear is becoming a big threat to Apple iWatch’s launching date. The smartwatch market still hasn’t sorted and digested by consumers since they don’t know exactly why they would need one. Manufacturers haven’t settled on what a smartwatch should be and wearables need a platform to take the reins pointing way forward.

Google has released four new Android Wear commercials for popping up the theme among the consumers. Three videos are reflecting the major utilities of Android Wear, showing different scenarios with glanceable info (traffic alerts), and voice commands (Google search and texting). The fourth spot is basically a mashup of the other three with another feature tossed in (incoming call alerts). All the commercials features the LG G Watch, Samsung Gear Live and also unreleased Moto 360.

The commercials are well placed, and show some useful durations when it would be easier to interact with a smartwatch rather than pulling out your mobile. The major exception is clearly the incoming call feature, since the answered call isn’t handled with the watch, but rather through the mobile. Another interesting note is that the commercials have concluded that the Gear Live and G Watch look very large and silly on women’s wrists. Perhaps the Moto 360 will help to eradicate this notion, but Android Wear certainly needs some hardware for women.

iWatch mass production pushed back to late November

Apple’s much rumored iWatch will enter mass production in mid to late-November, according to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Kuo, known for an almost flawless track record with Apple rumors, revised the estimate for the forthcoming iWatch from a prior projection of late-September production to late-November in a note to clients.

“We have pushed back our estimated time of iWatch mass production from late-September to mid-/ late- November. We also lower our forecast of iWatch 2014 shipments by 40% to 3mn units,” Kuo mentioned in the report.

The delay is due to much challenging new hardware and software engineering concerns that Apple has to overcome. Considering this, Kuo has intimated the four noteworthy features expected in the iWatch:

  • Flexible AMOLED display

  • Sapphire display case

  • Tougher waterproof standards

  • Different system-on-a-chip parts

The iWatch seems to be delayed to the last quarter end of the year. It can be the good strategic move from Apple in an attempt to catch those very busy last days of the Holiday shopping season.

Apple poaches Tag Heuer"s sales chief ahead of iWatch launch

Since long it has been assumed that Apple would return through with its terribly own trademark of smartwatch, and this year, there’s a real feeling that the corporate can finally bite the bullet and introduce the elusive product. Given Google’s statement of Android Wear at the start of the year, followed up ultimately month’s I/O conference with additional details and also the declaration of Samsung’s Gear Live, it’d seem crucial that Apple doesn’t enable its rivals to a lot of leeway, and with the Cupertino’s 1st major wearable set for unharness in a while within the year, the corporate has simply protected the services of TAG Heuer’s Sales Director.

Head of Jewelry and Watches Jean-Claude Biver, at Tag Heuer’s parent firm LVMH, noted prior on within the year that Apple had been on the prowl, attempting to poach his workers, and as of last week, with success landed the Tag Heuer head of sales.

Biver noted that he was “happy” for the staffer, and failed to feel betrayed as a result of he didn’t leave to affix a right away competition. Apple, meanwhile, appearance to be making quite solid team from that to launch the alleged “iWatch,” and having already employed many massive names from brands like YSL and Burberry, it’s clear that the corporate is incredibly serious regarding this new product class.

As per the rumor mill, we’re imagining Apple to roll out a series of devices, and apparently, the watch face is going to be of the circular selection, similar to the Moto 360. With Nike having successfully committed its FuelBand endeavors, Apple’s shut ally is claimed to be acting on a minimum of one heavily fitness-related device, which can seemingly be heavily targeted round the new HealthKit infrastructure.

Unfortunately, we have a tendency to have seen any proof of the iWatch, however with schedules like this, it appears solely a matter of your time before such a tool manifests itself. It’s unlikely that we’ll be obtaining associate declaration any time shortly, though, with most convince that the iWatch won’t arrive till the vacation season, however regardless of the case, we’ll keep you updated on any attention-grabbing info associated with this enigmatic product.

Apple recruited MLB, NHL and NBA pro athletes for testing iWatch

Apple has teamed up with some of the sports world’s most notable professional athletes in order to scan their upcoming ‘iWatch’s’ fitness capabilities in intense training environments, according to a source with knowledge of the testing,” Mark Gurman reports for 9to5Mac.

Apple is currently recruiting professional athletes from the NBA, NHL and MLB to test its iWatch. According to the report, Lakers athlete Kobe Bryant was spotted at Apple’s campus, as he was expected to meet up with Sir Jony Ive in regards to testing the upcoming iWatch. Los Angeles Kings right winger Dustin Brown was also spotted, as well as a player from the Boston Red Sox and a few other athletes. The athletes are said to have signed non-disclosure agreements regarding the existence of the upcoming Apple wearable device.

This new development is indicating that Apple’s new iWatch will have a strong focus on fitness. Combining the fitness features together with HealthKit in iOS 8, Apple’s iWatch is expecting to monitor things like steps taken, calories burned, and heart rate.Apart from this, reports also specifies that Apple has been working on advanced sensors to read a person’s hydration levels, blood pressure, and sweat.

Apple has also hired former Nike fitness consultant Jay Blahnik to work on its iWatch. Blahnik was part of the development of the Nike+ running accessory and app, which went inside Nike shoes and collaborated with the iPhone. This, however, is not the first time we hear about a possible Nike association in Apple’s wearable plans.

Over the last month, reports have been pointing that the iWatch will come in two sizes and will use a 2.5-inch display. Apple might launch the device during next quarter end along with the iPhone 6.

New Apple patent filing hinting at iWatch and wearable features

The USPTO has just published a trio of patent applications filed by Apple detailing smart, adaptive, and sensor-based features. All three were dated December 14, 2012 and can almost fit any type of smart device, even an iPhone itself, they do make more sense when put inside the framework of a wearable apparatus. iWatch, upcoming wearable from Apple is in trial production, and is expected to launch this coming October.

The first patent is titled “Method and Apparatus For Personal Characterization Data Collection Using Sensors“, it is basically a scorecard keeping system using data gathered from sensors. Here, a hub, mentioned to be a device, can obtain data from sensors which may be worn by a user, in short, a wearable device. Such raw data can then be used to generate a scorecard that is then sent to some remote server. This system can be used for monitoring a person’s lifestyle and activities as well as making suggestions and reminders when required.

The second and third patent definitely have wearable devices in mind.Method and Apparatus for Automatically Setting Alarms and Notifications”  patent talks about how a device can change its own settings depending on data coming from sensors, worn by the user. One example that was given is turning some alarms on or off if the data from the sensors show that the user is sleeping. Practically a Do Not Disturb feature that can be automatically disabled or enabled depending on the wearable device’s sensors. One interesting feature mention in this patent is how two wearable devices, or devices with sensors, can communicate  with their own users’ state and adjust accordingly. This, for example, can be used to automatically put User A’s phone in silent or vibrate mode if the wearable determines that User B, who is in the close proximity, is sleeping.

Finally, the third patent “Method and Apparatus for Automatically Repeating Alarms and Notifications in Response to Device Motion” deals with missed notifications. Again, the use case of a Do Not Disturb mode and sleep are used as examples. If a user has the “Do Not Disturb” setting on, takes a nap, and misses some notifications, the system can conclude when the user is awake. Once he is up from his nap, the system will replay notifications and disable the “Do Not Disturb” setting. If the user makes a little movement, like checking his iPhone for the time, the system will assume that the person is still sleeping, and all of the original settings will stand.

Will these patent applications end up being applied in the Apple iWatch? The date of filing of patent is concluding that Apple has already been working on wearable device designs and features.

Apple iWatch To Be Retailed Around $300

Investment firm, UBS, believes that the upcoming “iWatch” from Apple is expected to become a best-selling device with consumers, reaching sales similar to the iPad. UBS said in the note to the investors that Apple could sell 21 million smartwatches in the first year alone, and 36 million iWatch units in the second year. They have predicted the price tag of $300 for the anticipated wearable device.Overall, the iWatch is expected to give substantial growth to the shares of Apple.

“We are more confident that Apple will be introducing the iWatch before the holiday season following WWDC’s introduction of HealthKit, recent healthcare hirings, the acquisition of LuxVue Technology, and optimistic comments from Eddy Cue at the Re/Code Conference,” UBS analyst Steven Milunovich wrote in the note, which was picked up by AppleInsider.

In terms of dollars, UBS also thinks that the iWatch will add $6.5 billion in revenue to Apple’s bottom line in 2015, and $11 billion in 2016. The firm also believes that the iWatch will sell even better than the iPad, initially.

reports

“We expect iWatch sales to roughly track iPad unit sales — similar penetration rates would mean higher sales,” he said. “iWatch might do better because the customer base is larger than when iPad launched and the ASP might be less. On the other hand, iWatch is the first product to be worn, which might not appeal to all users.”

Cupertino-based tech company is falling under pressure to come up with a wearable device that would either match or overpower what competitors are offering. As WWDC 2014 is approaching soon, Apple has already placed much investment in health monitoring functions by incorporating such features in the recent iOS 8 software update.

The iOS 8 unveiling might have coincided with iWatch development, which uses the health functions similar to what was mentioned earlier. At this time, iWatch actual specs — if there are any — remains sparse. Even so, more information may be available in the following months leading up to the iWatch’s eventual inauguration sometime later this year.

Pebble dominates the smart wearables sector in Q1 2014:Canalys

From Smart Phones to Tablets, NotePads and Phablets and now to Wearable Bands, the market for smart gadgets just keeps growing. Buzzed as the next big thing is the technology market, the Wearable Bands, both basic and smart versions, are small devices worn on the body, monitoring and providing statistics on a variety of attributes, especially on fitness, lifestyle and health.

Canalys, an independent analyst company covering technology sectors, in its recently published country level quarterly estimates, expects a total of 2.7 million wearable bands shipped worldwide in Q1 2014, with smart bands making up close to 500,000 units.  Pebble Technology leads the market for the smart wearable sectors, followed by Sony and Samsung, with shares of 35%, 29% and 23% respectively. The interesting stat from the popular research firm’s report is that Fitbit holds a whopping 50% market share and is dominating the basic (fitness) bands segment with its wearable products like Flex,Zip,One,Force and Aria Bands.

canalysbands

Pebble started as a crowd-funded project on Kickstarter and they surely didn’t expect it to be so successful. Pebble and Pebble Steel are definitely one of the best smartwatches out there at this time. They’re about to get some stiff competition when Android Wear devices from LG,Motorola and others coming later this year. Apple is also entering smartwatch arena with iWatch, but for now they’re leading the pack.

But Canalys warned that market share in the nascent smartwatch/smart band segment can be very fluid and will likely “continue to change frequently as new products are released and will continue to do so throughout 2014.”

Pebble is doing a great job so far and we hope they’ll continue on doing that. Does it surprise you? Do you own a Pebble or maybe another smartwatch?

Apple iWatch Is Not The First Wrist Worn Communicator, Says Esslinger’s Book

Apple “iWatch” won’t be the first wrist-worn communicator idea by the company. Previously company also made the design of a device that can be worn on wrist. Recently, company legendary designer, Hartmut Esslinger, published a book named “Keep It Simple: The Early Design Years of Apple”, which revealed ‘iWatch’ is nothing new for Apple.

Apple iWatch

An image from the Esslinger’s recently published book showed a device with a keypad design that can be worn on wrist. This digital watch like machine is connected wirelessly with a headset. The photo is a piece from the book which German weekly newspaper Die Zeit published.

The keypad has 12 keys in total. Ten keys are assigned to the numbers 0 to 9, one key has a star and another has pound button. Headset is designed as a single earpiece that has a microphone capable of curving to the mouth of the person for easy communication.

Another design from the book is a foldable box that contained a complete workstation. The concept based on Lisa. This monolithic device has a full Lisa computer, a telephone, a printer and a monitor. All the things present in a same device.

Esslinger created “Snow White” design language in the year 1984 at the request of Steve Jobs. Both these devices followed the same language designed by Esslinger.

In 1982, Esslinger joined Apple and when Jobs was dismissed, he also left the company and joined NeXT with Jobs. In 1997, Jobs rejoined Apple, but Esslinger didn’t come back.

Apple planning App Store-like health platform for their biometric devices

Apple’s decision to enter the “quantified self” race reportedly will not end with a so-called iWatch,” as the company is thought to be considering the creation of a centralized tracking platform for health and fitness devices similar to the iOS App Store.

Recently, Apple has been hiring health and fitness experts  over the past years to get this project on the roll. Some of the hires are known talent from biotech companies such as Masimo, Vital Connect, and Philips Sleep Research. The latest reported hire is Eric Winokur, who is an MIT researcher. Winokur does work mostly on devices that monitor blood pressure and heart rate. The company hiring in the sensor technology which is believed to be rising due to the rumored project.

Apple Inc. Chief Executive Cook promised to deliver a product that could monitor blood glucose levels and fitness nutrition beyond any device that is out in the present market. In particular, it’s been said that a key feature of iOS 8 may be a so-called “Healthbook” application that would act as a central point for users to measure and track health-related data on their iPhone. This application might interface with a variety of wearable and connected devices that could track information such as weight, heart rate, blood pressure and more.

While wearable biometric devices are believed to be Apple’s immediate interest, some suspect that a new health platform is the company’s longer-term play.Since the Apple’s last product was iPad in 2010, the integration of this new health project with their new product “iWatch” sounds like a winning strategy.

Swiss watchmaker Swatch fighting Apple for the iWatch Trademark

The leading Swiss watchmaker Swatch is manufacturing digital display watches under the iSwatch trademark since several years. On the other hand, Apple has registered the iWatch trademark in many countries including Japan, Russia, Mexico, Turkey and Columbia.

Swatch is not happy with this as it feels that the two trademarks iSwatch and iWatch are very similar and can be confusing. The company has been objecting to trademark authorities against Apple’s iWatch trademark registration. As Serena Chiesura, Head of Corporate Communications of The Swatch Group Ltd. told Watson:

“We assess the likelihood of confusion as given, the marks are confusingly similar. In all countries where the mark is registered, we go against it before.”

iSwatch

Swatch has not decided upon any concrete steps it will take as to how it will proceed in the matter. However, the company’s representative says it will “take any action and measures deemed necessary in order to protect its own brand iSwatch.” In the past also, Swatch has moved trademark authorities in the US for blocking other companies from using the iWatch trademark.

Although Apple has given no official confirmation, the US giant is rumored to be currently working on smartwatches or wearables and when they are finally out, they might be called iWatch.

Exactly how this Swatch and Apple dispute plays out remains to be seen. It will be interesting to see how Apple deals with the case. Apple might choose to go on the offensive to retain the iWatch trademark as its products are identified the world over with the prefix ‘i’- iPod, iPad and iPhone and it might want to give the name iWatch to its new range of smartwatches. Will Swatch be successful in blocking Apple from using the iWatch trademark?
