LG Rumored to be the Only Display Supplier for Apple Watch

Apple has launched the first version of Apple Watch this year.  If Apple is going to maintain a 12-month cycle for releasing a new product, then we can expect that the 2nd version of Apple Watch which is probably going to be named as simply as Apple Watch 2 is going to be released in 2016. However, there is no specific time frame when it is going to be released in 2016.

One thing for sure is that LG is still going to be the main display supplier of Apple Watch 2 as it is for the first version of Apple Watch.  LG is estimated to have supplied the display for about 68 percent of all wearable devices which is shipped in the first quarter of 2015. Samsung will most probably going to join LG to supply the display part for the next generation of Apple Watch. However, the latest report suggests that Apple is considering other display manufacturer as well.

The display that LG supplied to Apple for Apple Watch is none other than the P-OLED displays or Plastic-OLED.  The display technology is chosen for the wearable product as it can have thin bezels and can easily shape into different shapes even though it is made of plastic.

Prior to the release of Apple Watch 2, its OS which is simply called Apple’s WatchOS 2 will be launched soon with some improvements over the original OS.  One of the improvements is to include information from third-party apps for the watch face.

iOS hacker gets a web browser running on Apple Watch

The days are not far when you can browse the internet directly from your wrist. An iOS developer and jailbreaker Nicholas Allegra, popularly known  by his handle comex, has shown a web browser running on the tiny 1.5-inch screen of his Apple Watch. “I always wanted a web browser running on my wrist” he tweeted.

comex successfully hacked the Apple Watch OS and managed to get a web browser running on it. He has posted a short 15-second video on mobypicture in which he taps and zooms on the Google homepage on the Apple Watch’s screen. Naturally, its functionality is limited due to the tiny screen and absence of a keyboard. Comex hasn’t given any details about how he did it but he has been able to run the Safari browser on the Watch even though Apple has not included the Safari browser app in it.

comex has also posted a picture of the Apple Watch showing the iOS dictionary view on Twitter.

Some people doubt comex’s feat and speculate that the browser demo is “just an app” but he denies it.

Comex may be working on Apple Watch jailbreak to break Apple’s restrictions and use unsupported software. Apple has announced earlier that it was working on a native SDK which will be available later in the year. It will enable developers to create apps that could run code on the Watch OS itself. Currently, the apps are loaded through iPhone as Watchkit extensions via Bluetooth.

Comex is known for releasing JailbreakMe, a  one-tap jailbreaking tool in 2011 for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.

Apple releases three new Apple Watch Ads ‘Rise’, ‘Up’ and ‘Us’ highlighting its usefulness

Apple has released three new Apple Watch ads on its YouTube channel just prior to its official worldwide launch. The new ads titled ‘Rise’, ‘Up’ and ‘Us’ focus on three important uses of the device: Time, Health & Fitness and Communication. These are the three aspects which Apple CEO Tim Cook highlighted while introducing the Apple Watch.

Many feel that there is really no need for a smartwatch, that it is more of a style statement. The entry of Apple Watch has surely generated some excitement in the smartwatch market and Apple is highlighting its functions through ads so that people get interested and convinced to buy one.

The first ad “Rise” shows people using their Apple Watch for their morning activities, to wake up, see & answer incoming messages and use it when they commute.

The second ad “Up” shows people using the health and fitness features of the watch for working out and other activities like setting up fitness goals or using it while exercising etc. It also highlights the “stand” notification which alerts users with “Time to Stand” when they are working or commuting.

The final ad “Us” focuses on the Apple Watch’s communication features such as draw pictures, send animated emojis, heart beats or taps to the wrists of others wearing the Apple Watch.

At the end, all the three ads declare “The Watch is here”. Apple’s earlier marketing campaign focused on showing Apple Watch on the wrists of celebrities, models and athletes but now it appears that Apple is showing the device being used by common man.

A Teardown of Apple Watch Revealed Deactivated Blood Oxygen Measurement Sensor

Apple Watch was released recently. iFixit, a repair company, has opened up the device in order to show us what are the components which can be found in the device. Apparently, there are additional sensors which are not announced by Apple embedded inside Apple Watch. These sensors are the sensors used to measure the oxygen level in the human blood. However, these sensors are disabled.

The way that it supposed to work is that the sensors will send pulses of light down through the skin and measure the oxygen molecules which reflect the light back. However, this can be interrupted by arm hair, sweat and dirt which make the measurement to be not accurate.  The sensors are placed at the back of Apple Watch. If this issue has been solved, then most probably the function can be turned on via software update.

It seems like Apple wants to focus more on health through its new feature HealthKit which allows all the health and fitness apps to work together and provide the user with some useful information about his/her own health. HealthKit feature is available starting from iOS 8.

Apple Watch is available in three models, Apple Watch, Apple Watch Sport Edition and Apple Watch Edition.

Apple Watch and its MagSafe magnetic charger is Qi-compatible

As we know, the Apple Watch will be using a magnetic wireless charger MagSafe. It is an inductive charger and snaps on to the back of the watch magnetically and works like any other wireless charger. It can charge the Apple Watch from 0 to 80% in 1.5 hours and up to 100% in about 2.5 hours.

It seems that the MagSafe charger is compatible with Qi wireless technology. AppleInsider has obtained a video which shows a Moto 360 smartwatch getting charged with Apple Watch’s MagSafe magnetic charger. Moto 360 uses Qi wireless charging technology and in the video, when it was placed on the MagSafe charger, it got fully charged.

In view of the above, we can say that even the Apple Watch could get charged with a Qi-compatible charging mat, although the video does not show it. Apple has not announced anything about Apple Watch compatibility with the Qi wireless standard. These accessories are easily available in the market and 3rd party Qi accessories are being used for charging iPhones.

Qi, pronounced Chee, means “natural energy in Chinese. The Qi charging system consists of a power transmission pad on which the portable device to be charged is placed and charging is done through “resonant inductive coupling.” This technology is being used in most Android Wear smartwatches and some high-end Android phones too.

Interestingly, Apple Watch will be the first Apple device to support wireless charging. Earlier, Apple did not seem much interested in this technology. Phil Schiller, Apple’s marketing head had said in 2012 that the convenience offered by this technology was questionable because you still needed to plug it into a wall. “Having to create another device you have to plug into the wall is actually, for most situations, more complicated,” he said.

Apple Watch, though Qi-compatible, does not have power mat-like charger. It’s charger consists of a cable with a small magnetic connector at one end that snaps on to the watch and a traditional plug for plugging into a power source on the other.

Apple Watch Might be the Most Profitable Product from Apple

Apple has just launched Apple Watch recently and it turns out that it could be the most profitable product from the company. According to Carl Howe from Thing Big Analytics, the company has already sold about 3 million units till to date. It is estimated about 1.8 million Sport models and about 40,000 Edition models have been sold to the public.

Howe posted on his blog that his belief was that the Apple Watch product line would become Apple’s most profitable product line ever, with gross margins exceeding 60 percents. He added that it was because the core electronics modules in the expensive models are the same ones used in the Sport models and they just don’t cost that much.

Apple Watch comes with three different models offered to the public, Apple Watch Sport, Apple Watch as well as Apple Watch Edition. Different models will fit the requirement for different people. Apple Watch for example, it is more to something that is used every day. Apple Watch Sport is suited for people who always on the road as it is more resistant to scratches and impacts while Apple Watch Edition is for fashionista out there since this model has a really great design as it comes with 18-carat gold and the display is protected by polished sapphire crystal.

In January, Apple’s earning is reported to reach $3.06 per share with revenue of $74.6 billion. On April 27, Apple will report the company’s earnings for the first quarter of 2015.

Hilarious Video Shows Worst Scenario of Receiving Phone Calls on Apple Watch

The video was done by New York based YouTube comedy team Rated WTF. In the video, it is shown that Siri is getting pissed off when her owner listens to Apple Watch more than he listens to her. Apple Watch is going to be launched soon. There are three choices the consumers can choose from, Apple Watch which is made from stainless steel, Apple Watch Sport which made from aluminium and Apple Watch Edition on the higher end as it is made of 18-carat gold cases and Sapphire crystal.

One of the features of Apple Watch is to be able to receive incoming calls. It is part of Apple’s Continuity feature which allows Apple users to answer incoming calls from Apple devices such as iPhone or iPad. It is a very useful feature for a scenario whereby if there is an incoming call and your iPhone is in living room and your iPad is in the study room and happen that you are in the study room, you can just pick up the call using your iPad since you and your iPad is in one location and your iPad will be nearer to you than your iPhone. However, this feature can be quite annoying feature in the scenario whereby your iPhone, iPad and you are in the same location together. Therefore if there is an incoming call, you might get confused of which device should you use to pick up the call? Not to mention with Apple Watch, there are one more device that you should consider.

I think we can just enjoy watching the video.

Apple Inc Downgraded at Raymond James After Apple Watch Became Available to Purchase on Friday

Apple Inc was downgraded at Raymond James after the release of Apple Watch to the market on Friday. This measurement is taken due to the concern of the possibility whereby Apple Watch may not be able to meet inventor’s high standards. Analyst Tavis McCourt lowered his market rating since it was outperform started from Jan 28,2014.

Apple Watch can be paired with Apple iPhone 5 onwards. There are 3 different types of Apple Watch to choose from, such as Apple Watch, Apple Watch Sport as well as Apple Watch Edition. According to the survey that McCourt has done in December the number of iPhone users who intend to also buy Apple Watch increase up to about 10% whereas in March, the same survey was conducted and the figure fell to 5% .

On the fiscal second-quarter earnings-per-share, he increased his estimation from $2.02 to $2.15. This estimation comes about as there is still high demand of iPhone in China and stronger share buyback activity. As the pace over the years has increased, it becomes more difficult to maintain. Therefore, it is expected that the stock to be remain within the current range without any significant difference in the near future due to the competition from other technology giant’s peers and the broader market.

Apple is expected to report the company’s quarterly result on April 27 after the market closes. The earnings per share are expected to rise from $1.66 a year ago to $2.13 whereas the revenue is expected to rise from $45.6 billion to $55.4 billion.

Apple Rumors: Upcoming iPhone 6S Plus to feature Force Touch display

We have already heard rumors that after bringing Force Touch display to Apple Watch, Apple is working to provide the Force Touch feature to its next iPhone.  The rumors have surfaced again, this time from the supplier who has provided the Force Touch panels for Apple Watch.

The supplier is TPK from China and according to a report by UDN, industry insiders say that TPK is set to record a significant growth in profits in the second half of this year because it is supplying Force Touch sensors to Apple along with GIS, another China-based supplier. These new sensors are meant for iPhone 6S Plus.

Force Touch display has a sensor embedded inside it which can distinguish between a light tap and a hard press on the screen by the user. This is a whole new functionality found in the Apple Watch and in the trackpad of the new Macbook. Now it looks like Apple’s upcoming iPhone 6S Plus will be getting it too.

Since the Apple Watch’s Force Touch display is smaller at 1.5-inch and 1.65-inch, it costs around $4 to $5 per unit. In comparison, the iPhone 6S Plus will have a much larger 5.5-inch display and the Force Touch sensor for it will cost about $13 to $14 which is 2.5 times that of the Apple Watch.

The interesting point to note is that iPhone 6S doesn’t seem to be getting the Force Touch display, only it’s bigger counterpart, the iPhone 6S Plus will feature it.

Well, this is not confirmed news, so better to take it with a pinch of salt. We’ll keep you informed when we know more. Stay with us.

Apple Watch will Replaced Your Car Key - Announcement by Tim Cook

Apple Watch was first announced in September last year without specifying the exact product release date. It was only later on, Apple retail chief, Angela Ahrendts revealed that Apple Watch will be released after Chinese New Year this year.  Recently, Apple has scheduled for a special event on March 9. During this event, it was expected that Apple Watch will be showcased to the public. Apple’s CEO Tim Cook said that the upcoming device will be launched in April 2015 when he was announcing the company’s last year’s earning.

There are a lot of functionality of Apple Watch. One of the functionality that later on announced is that Apple Watch can be used to replace your car keys. On top of that, the battery will last for the whole day. The time taken for charging your Apple Watch also will be shorter than the time taken to charge your iPhone.

Apple Watch can also be used as a payment method through Apple Pay. However there is no further detail on how the user verification will work in the watch. Apple seems like to have a lot of things going on within the company. In March last year, the company released CarPlay which enables drivers to access contacts, make calls or listen to voicemails on their iPhone without having to remove their hands from the steering wheel. On top of that, earlier this month, Apple is reported to be looking for ways to manufacture self-driving electric car as well as talking to a few carmakers and automotive suppliers.

We look forward to all of that!

Apple to hold a special event “Spring forward” on March 9th in San Francisco

Apple has sent out invitations for an event to be held March 9th in San Francisco. The title of the event is “Spring forward,” a reference to Daylight Savings Time which begins the day before. This clue leads us to believe that the Apple Watch will be the focus of the event, which will take place at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater. This is a venue used before by the tech titan to introduce new versions of the Apple iPhone and Apple iPad.

Apple is now sending out invitations for a event which is to be held on March 9th in San Francisco. The company has given the tile of “Spring forward” to this event which is referred to the Daylight Savings Time that starts the day before. We believe that this event could be to focus upon the Apple Watch which is likely to release next month in April. The event is to take place at the Yerba Buena Center for Arts Theater. This is one of Apple’s most liked venue and the company has even unveiled its previous iPhone and iPad here.

Pebble working on a new thinner smartwatch with color display?

Pebble has put out a teaser on its website showing a countdown timer below the picture of a watch, hinting that there will be some announcement from the company when the timer becomes zero i.e. at 10AM EST on next Tuesday. Earlier in the month Pebble’s CEO Eric Migicovsky had said that the company would be releasing a new software platform and a new product line this year.

Now 9To5Mac has received information from multiple inside sources that Pebble has been working on major updates to both the hardware and the software of its watch and they will be ready to roll out next week on Tuesday. Pebble’s new smartwatch is reportedly thinner in size but with a wider screen and a color display looking like e-paper. However, it will not be a touch screen like the Apple Watch is supposed to have.

Although the new watch will be thinner and brighter than the earlier models, the battery will reportedly remain the same as the current models. It will sport an improved backlight for the display and a microphone which could lead 3rd party developers to create new apps for the Pebble platform. A heart rate monitor is a part of the company’s long term plans but not just yet.

The new Pebble watch will have a redesigned brand new Pebble OS. It will offer a timeline view showing recent notifications and several new animations in the user interface. The watch will have a new Cortex M4 chip and a 6-axis gyroscope. Its pricing is expected to be similar to that of Pebble Steel.

Of course, the Tuesday’s announcement may be for entirely another reason, we can’t say for sure. But if not now, Pebble’s new smartwatch is certainly expected sometime in the near future. So far, Pebble has been facing tough competition from Android Wear smartwatches and now it will have added competition from Apple Watch that is expected to release in April this year.

Apple Watch flexible Plastic OLED displays will be made by LG

LG and Apple relationship has been growing up and up slowly. Just for the previous tablet, Apple has ordered high resolution displays for Apple iPad tablets to LG. now; Apple is going to continue to make the relationship stronger with the new order for the flexible plastic OLED screen.

LG brand has been improving its technology day by day and it helps the company to get more orders from giant companies. Producing flexible lighting panels made of plastic is not a hard job for the brand at all. However, the demand quantity could be a problem for the company.

According to a source, Apple has determined to get 26 to 29 millions of displays by the end of the year with 61 million displays in 2016. However, the display amount will be dependent on the Apple Watch’s demand after launching.

However, only 8.5 million watches could be shipped by Apple in this year and the order news is likely very high for the company. Samsung will deliver application processors, ASE is reasonable for system-in-package modules and Quanta will deliver EMS for the upcoming Apple Watch with LG.

No basic information has been provided by Apple yet. But, Apple Watch could be available in April, may be first week of the month.

Force Touch is a feature from Apple which is able to differentiate between a light touch and a deep press when a user tap on the screen. It is going to be introduced for the first time on Apple’s smartwatch, Apple Watch. However, Apple is toying with an idea for bringing this feature into its iPhone range product. It is predicted that this feature will be applied on iPhone with some kind of motion/gesture sensing which is going to be embedded in the device’s hardware level. This feature on iPhone will be called 3D Touch Technology.

According to the rumors, the main supplier of the iPhone 6S’ 3D Touch Technology will be a US-based Avago Tech. The same company which is behind the initial development stage Wii Gesture Sensor technology. Currently, the 3D Touch Technology is in the early stage of R&D development. Therefore, there is no further confirmation from Apple regarding the new technology.

Hopefully, there are some good news in the future. Stay tuned!
