Reports: Android 5.0 Lollipop more stable than iOS 8

An argument which Android and Apple fans always love to do is once again here. Recent reports have a claim that the Android 5.0 Lollipop that comes with a completely new and redesigned Material Design crashes much less as compared to the iOS 8 version. The Android 5.0 Lollipop version announced last year, in addition to the Material Design, comes with some more performance benefits such as ARTs and others.

The reports claims that Google has worked really well on its new OS, which is said to be more stable in performance delivery and less immune to crash as compared to iOS 8. The reports claims that the crash rate of Android 5.0 Lollipop is 2% while that of iOS 8 is 2.2%.

However, it is a very marginal difference of 0.2% but it puts Android ahead of the race in performance comparisons. The earlier Android version KiKat was more vulnerable and has a crash rate of 2.6% and the previous iOS 7 was more stable with a crash rate just 1.9%.

Apple iOS 9 is Coming Soon!

Apple has launched iOS 8 last year which comes with a lot of useful new features for iOS devices such as iPhone or iPad. Among the new features are the third-party keyboards, custom sharing and action options, enhanced Spotlight, Extensibility which allow for interactive notifications, Family Sharing as well as Continuity. On top of that, iOS 8 also comes with updates to Messages and Photos for example, custom photo filters and effects, improved Mail and Safari as well as Health app.

This year, it seems like Apple is ready to test the new operating system iOS 9 as per Google Analytics from the below screenshot. It is expected to be introduced for the first time in June this year during the annual conference WWDC 2015. Apparently, Apple not only tests internally but also externally by its developers.

This is aligned to Tim Cook’s statement which mentioned that Apple will try to release a major version of iOS and Mac OS each year.  Unfortunately, there is no further detail on what other new features which going to be implemented for iOS 9. Hopefully there are some leaks or preview prior to the launching.

Android 5.0.1 memory leak issue was found

Android Lollipop which is much praised for its modernistic Material Design experience is about to provide next update. Android 5.0 already a great update but there is much research work going on to give more powerful, smooth and stable performance under the hood.

Moreover, such new and prompt releases also often comes with few bugs n faults. iOS 8.0 caused lot of issues for users , so did iOS 8.1 update, which was released soon with announcement of iPad Air.

Google is also not in favour of releasing soon since Android 5.0.1 update is having nasty memory leak issue. It takes 1.3+ GB of RAM resulting in on-screen applications being closed and smartphone often auto-returning to home-screen. Android issue tracker forum has opened a thread on which various Nexus devices’ (Nexus 4,5 and 6) users have raised complains.

Google has already pinpointed the memory leak issue and closed the thread. The prior update is labelled as ‘FutureRelease’, revealing the fix might be added to an incoming update soon.

Bluetooth Connectivity Issues for iOS 8

It seems like there is another issue with iOS 8 since its release recently. This time the issue is with the Bluetooth connection. It affecting users who just upgraded their iPhone to iOS 8 and users who just purchased the new iPhone 6 or 6 Plus. There are apparently several different issues altogether, including refusing to pair entirely, neglecting to play audio over the speakers or disconnecting when there is a phone call.

The Bluetooth connectivity issues with devices running iOS8 and iOS 8.0.2 not only affected the automobiles but any devices that can use Bluetooth to do pairing with iPhone running on iOS 8 or iOS 8.0.2 is also affected. These devices are known to have this issue such as headphones, speakers, headsets and many more while the automobiles are known to have this issue such as Hyundai, BMW, Mercedes, Lexus, Toyota, Ford and many more. The Apple Support is aware of the compatibility issue between the iOS 8 and any devices that can support pairing with Bluetooth and Apple is currently working on fixing the issue.

There is another workaround to solve this issue temporarily but it is needed to be done with caution since it can wipe out all the data that is present in the iCloud Drive after the process.  This workaround is to log out from iCloud, and forget the Bluetooth devices by using “Reset All Settings” or “Reset Network Settings” option on the iPhone and restart it. Then the user will need to re-pair the devices using Bluetooth and logging in back to iCloud.

Evernote – Only for premium user then the user is able to use the new feature to login to the account.

LastPass – a password manager app which also uses Touch ID to protect the passwords saved in the app.

A few other apps such as Lowe’s, Mint, PasswordBox, Scanner Pro, Simple, Day One and eHarmony have also moved towards using TouchID feature.

Not only TouchID added another layer of defense and general security, it also provides a convenient way to login to the app. The user just needs to tap a thumb or index on the fingerprint sensor which is a lot lesser tedious than to key in the passcode. Eventhough the feature has some issue during the earlier release; it is a lot more secure than the traditional four-number PIN.

Apple sends an invite for September 9 event

With all the hype surrounding Apple’s upcoming flagship iPhone 6, the device is expected to be announced next month on September 9^th. Well, this rumors seem to be almost right as Apple has send out an press invitation for an upcoming event on September 9^th.

At this event, we expect the much rumored Apple iPhone 6 to break covers. If rumors are to be believed, Apple is also likely to announce is much awaited iWatch smartwatch. Yesterday, Samsung announced its another Tizen Based Gear S while LG announced its second Android Wear the G Watch R. Moreover, we can expect Moto 360 to arrive anytime soon. Last month we saw Apple approaching Tag Heuer VP for iWatch sales, which is a sufficient proof that the smartwatch might be coming soon.

Well, Apple has its own way of giving out surprises at the launch and with all the leaks pouring out from different sources, Apple might come up with something beyond a sapphire glass. Grubber hints at Apple iWatch launch next month

Looks like Apple is set to introduce its long awaited iWatch next month. A comment by John Grubber on Daring Fireball hints that Apple is announcing its iWatch next month. Grubber has a good reputation for leaking correct information regarding Apple device launches.

Grubber commented on Daring Fireball in response to an article in The Verge about Moto 360 and a part of the comment says, “Apple announces their wrist wearable thing next month.”   Of course, he clarified later on Twitter saying, “I have no idea whether Apple is planning wrist thing for September or October, just making a joke.”

However, since Apple is reportedly holding a special media event on 9th September when it is expected to launch its next gen iPhone 6, the company might also introduce its iWatch at the time.

Apple is expected to unveil its much rumored wearable device this year but the mass production of iWatch devices has been reportedly delayed and shifted from late-September to mid-/ late- November. The delay has been caused due to some challenging new software and hardware issues faced by Apple.

Apple has already registered the ‘iWatch’ trademark in several countries including Japan, Russia, Taiwan, Mexico, Colombia, Turkey and Chile. Apple has also developed a Health Book app that is expected to be available on iWatch for tracking health and fitness. Apple has rolled out the iOS 8 beta 3 build number 12A4318c to developers for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. It allows the T-Mobile USA subscribers to use Wi-Fi Calling with better audio quality. The new firmware also supports new iCloud Drive options and improved Health Application.

The new Health application will make use of the M&7 motion co-processor to track the movement for data sourcing.Apple also added a tracker for caffeine along with other nutritional categories in the Health app. Meanwhile, there are several apps on the App Store that can track and analyze caffeine intake of the users. These developers will integrate their apps to the iOS 8. Lastly, Apple packed a Medical ID, which is an emergency card feature.

Apart from the new iOS 8 Beta 3 firmware Apple launches new beta versions of the Apple TV, Find My iPhone and Find My Friends apps. You can download them from the new Beta Apps in the App Store. Lastly, QuickType is now an option available in Settings, plus other minor tweaks.Certainly, Apple has initiated seeding the third beta of the Mac OS X Yosemite, too.

Apple has teamed up with some of the sports world’s most notable professional athletes in order to scan their upcoming ‘iWatch’s’ fitness capabilities in intense training environments, according to a source with knowledge of the testing,” Mark Gurman reports for 9to5Mac.

Apple is currently recruiting professional athletes from the NBA, NHL and MLB to test its iWatch. According to the report, Lakers athlete Kobe Bryant was spotted at Apple’s campus, as he was expected to meet up with Sir Jony Ive in regards to testing the upcoming iWatch. Los Angeles Kings right winger Dustin Brown was also spotted, as well as a player from the Boston Red Sox and a few other athletes. The athletes are said to have signed non-disclosure agreements regarding the existence of the upcoming Apple wearable device.

This new development is indicating that Apple’s new iWatch will have a strong focus on fitness. Combining the fitness features together with HealthKit in iOS 8, Apple’s iWatch is expecting to monitor things like steps taken, calories burned, and heart rate.Apart from this, reports also specifies that Apple has been working on advanced sensors to read a person’s hydration levels, blood pressure, and sweat.

Apple is working on adding a new feature to Apple Maps that will help user to find parked car. iOS 8 is still just in its beta version release and developers are still digging into its code to find hidden features. This parked car locater feature is already available in Android’s Google Now.

As per reports from 9to5Mac some new icons are seen on iOS 8 which point to an addition to Apple Maps App. This addition is seen from a “pin” like icon on the screen. The icon is visible on screenshot below. So, there are six icons dedicated to this Parking feature in this screenshot image. The user will have to pin the car location while parking and after that, when user’s work is done the app will guide the user to his car location

Apple earlier also tried making a way into the real world with “Siri” but Google Now was way more successful in delivering users with what they needed. So, with Parked Car Locater Apple is trying to implement something already tested by Google Now.  This app will come in very handy as it will save a lot of time wasted in finding parked car. So, you will just have to pin the location of car while going into the mall and when you return you can easily find your car with the help of this app. This feature would be available in both iPhone and iPad and would add a little prestige to much criticized Apple Maps.

iOS 8 to Remember the Location of Your Parked Car

One of the newly fangled feature in iOS 8 is time-lapse mode in the native Camera app.It allow users to take a series of snapshots with a few second interval and in the end combines all the images into a video, which when played looks like a fast-forwarded video.

The time-lapse shooting mode is available alongwith priorly available camera modes, including photos, videos, square pics, panoramic shots, and slow-motion video. The results of a pair of quick time-lapse tests can be seen in the below video.It was shot from an iPhone 5s running iOS 8 beta.

Pre-WWDC rumors were saying that Apple would soon launch split-screen multitasking for iPad and the deep details inside iOS 8 code has showed that rumors were not rumors but the truth.

Within iOS 8′s code, Steven Troughton-Smith of Apple revealed a feature that will run two apps side by side on SpringBoard. He also spotted that this splitting screen will allow two apps to run on the screen by sharing 50-50 space and can also run by sharing three-quarters or one quarter of the screen while other sharing the remaining space.

This feature will be supported by iPad Air and other iPad with full size screen and iOS 8 as an operating system. iPad mini with Retina Display or iPad mini will not support this feature. It is expected that this feature will be available at the time of iOS release, which will held in September. As the year advances through the beta release cycle, we may get to know more and get more things in our hands.

As for the “iPad Pro”, this so called large displaying tablet is expected to be released later this year.

The iOS has long been criticized by Android users for its lack of features. One feature which was missing for a long time was widgets.
