Samsung Flow Beta akin to Apple’s Continuity, hits Google Play

Samsung Flow, that allows you to move your activities between devices, is now available on Google Play in Beta version. Samsung has first introduced Flow in September 2014 at its developer conference.

Samsung’s Flow app lets users shift their activities seamlessly between various Samsung devices just like Apple’s Continuity. The devices used may range from PCs, laptops and tablets to smartphones and even wristwatches.  The main idea behind it is to have a single platform that enables users to transfer files and move between devices smoothly and easily without any interruption.

In today’s digital era, people have more than one devices and during the course of the day they are using different devices at different points of time. While performing a particular task on your smartphone, you may feel that a bigger screen would be better. In that case, you can use the Samsung Flow app to shift to a tablet and continue with the task from where you left off in the smartphone. Or if you start reading an article on your smartphone while commuting, you can pick up from where you left off on your tablet when you reach home.

Samsung-Flow-3

You can use Samsung Flow to:

“• Transfer an activity to the right device for a task. Pick up right where you left off rather than starting from scratch on the new device.

• Defer an activity when the right device is not immediately at hand or there just isn’t enough time to finish up a task. Resume it when you’re ready.”

Flow works with existing applications through Android’s Share menu. Developers will be able to add Flow actions in their apps to allow smooth transitions between devices for a better user experience.

The Samsung Flow app in Beta version is currently available for free download in the US for following Samsung Android devices:

Galaxy S5, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 edge, Galaxy Alpha, Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note 4 edge and Galaxy Tab S.

The following video shows how the Samsung Flow app works:

Google Keep gets a new update for notes sharing and searching

Google Keep is Google’s note taking app that allows us to jot down notes, create lists, and add images and audio. The only problem with Google Keep is that it doesn’t get updated often. However, Google has now come out with a much awaited update to the Keep with a couple of new features.

Google Keep now allows you to share your notes and lists with other people. For example, if you make a shopping list and share it with your family on the Keep, each individual can do their share of the shopping and the items will get ticked off in real time as soon as they are bought. This way, things will get done much faster as no back and forth messaging is needed. Sharing of notes and lists through Keep can be useful at work too.

Google to Shut Down Quickoffice and Enhance Google Drive

Earlier last week, Google announced on a blog post that they’re removing Quickoffice from Google Play as well as the App Store. Google Drive was formerly known as Google Docs and is a file hosting service that also has word-processing tools with which you can edit and create files online. It is available both for Desktop as well mobile users.

Starting from April, Google made changes to Google Drive by releasing the three document editing tools i.e. Google Docs, Sheets, Slides as standalone apps for mobile. Desktop users can still access all those tools in one place.

Quickoffice, on the other hand, is a mobile app for editing and creating documents, presentations as well as spreadsheets on the go. It is available for users of Android and iOS devices on Google play and Apple App Store respectively.

The announcement unveiled that Google is removing the app “in the coming weeks”. They will also update the existing standalone Google Drive apps and add bunches of new features in to them.

Google acquired Quickoffice back in 2012 and after several changes and updates to the app, they decided that they’re integrating it with Google Drive. The work of integration that has been underway for a couple of years is now about to complete.

For those of you who already have an account with Quickoffice, you can continue to use it without any updates but it won’t be available for download to new users.

Google Wallet for Android Gets Multi Account Support

g_wallet_vision

Google Wallet has been excellent for making payments and has gained a lot of popularity. However it just supported single account per phone. So a lot of users were not happy due to this as some of their close ones might need the phone to send cash or make a payment at times. All of those who were bothered by this limitation, this issue has been resolved now. Google has made few changes in user interface of the Wallet app for Android which allows users to access different accounts on the same phone. They have made one more change; users will get the shipment updates on orders directly through this app.

Along with the change in Wallet app, Google has also made a change that would impact other apps. There is a refresh of Google Play services and it aids developers to place Google Wallet Instant Buy buttons in the titles. If they make this change, it would not be easy to buy something spontaneously. Though it’s not great news for instinctive shoppers; it might cheer those that handle their finances well.

The changes made by Google are going to make Wallet app users on Android very happy. We will have to wait and watch how the other upgrade treats users.
