In addition to announcing its Fire HD 6 and Fire HD 7, the online retail giant Amazon has announced an updated Fire HDX 8.9 tablet that comes with a powerful Snapdragon chipset at higher clock speed and is likely to be made available to customers from October 21.
The Amazon Fire HDX 8.9 comes with 2560×1600 pixel resolution having 339ppi density. The screen offers 100% sRGB color accuracy offering brightness greater than 400nits. The tablet comes baked with a quad-core Snapdragon 805 chipset clocked at 2.5GHz with a Adreno 420 GPU for graphic support and a 2GB of RAM memory. The tablet would be available in three storage versions of 16,32 and 64GB.
The Amazon Fire HDX 8.9 hosts a powerful 8MP primary camera with f/2.2 lens with LED flash. The connectivity options for the device include dual band, dual antenna Wi-Fi and an optional 4G LTE connectivity. This is the first tablet in the market that comes with Dolby Atmos audio offering a 360 degree surround sound experience along with Stereo speaker on-board.
Looking to its dimensions, the Fire HDX 8.9 has 7.8mm of thickness and 375 grams of weight. According to Amazon, the battery is sufficient to offer un-interrupted usage of 12 hours. The tablet runs on the Android based Fire OS 4. This OS hosts the company’s own shopping and content streaming services. Looking to its pricing, the 16GB model comes for $379 while the 64GB LTE model for $594. Additional accessories include a Fire Keyboard for $55.99 and a Origami Case for $54.99.
