The making of Xiaomi Mi 4

Xiaomi has just unwrapped the brand new Mi 4, the latest flagship smartphone that brings the top-of-the-line Snapdragon 801 system chip at an exceptional affordable price point of around half the price of other flagships.

However, the Xiaomi Mi 4 is not just alternate powerful Android smartphone – it actually takes design seriously and unveils a meticulously crafted metal frame with slanting edges that takes a page from the style book of the best.

Xiaomi has released a documentary-style commercial showing how the transformation took place – a piece of  crude metal, after going through  a process of cutting, welding and polishing, finally acquired the jewelry-like look. It takes 40 processes and 193 steps to make the stainless steel frame of the Mi 4.

The intension seems clear. The company is so ambitious that it is not mollified being a low-priced, quality phone maker, but aims to be an affordable and design-oriented tech brand. Besides, showing the amount of attention paid to something trivial may convince some consumers that despite the low prices, no corners were compromised.

The smartphone will be up for pre-order starting July 29th for an killer price of $320 (16GB) and $400 (64GB). Unfortunately, the company has not yet announced its availability in non-China markets. But given that the company is slowly expanding into foreign markets, we expect the announcement about its global expansion soon.

Xiaomi has already sold more than 26 million smartphones in the first half of the year and plans to reach its target of 60 million by the end. Additionally, the company aims to hit the 100 million mark in 2015 backed by innovative product launches.
