Motorola DROID Turbo performance benchmarks reveal it to be the fastest QHD smartphone

The recently launched Motorola DROID Turbo has some powerful specs. The Verizon exclusive DROID Turbo is the most powerful Android smartphone available in the market today. If we compare the performance benchmarks of flagships of various companies, the Motorola DROID Turbo, LG G3, Samsung Galaxy Note 4, Sony Xperia Z3 and Apple iPhone 6, DROID Turbo comes out way ahead of them all.

Have a look at the chart:

Motorola DROID Turbo Performance Benchmarks

Taking the benchmarks one by one, the first one is Quadrant. This benchmark covers 21 tests that include processor, memory, 2D graphics, output and Input. Here, Galaxy Note 4 tops with 24,053 points followed by LG G3 with 23,551 points and the Droid Turbo is third with 21,739 points.

An Tu Tu measures CPU, memory, 2D and 3D graphics, SD card and other process performances. In this, DROID Turbo is ahead of all with 48,412 points followed by Galaxy Note 4 with 41,185 points.

In the Vellamo Metal benchmark that tests single core CPU performance, the Snapdragon 805 quad-core 2.7GHz processor of Motorola DROID Turbo performed way ahead of others with 1814 points and LG G3 came a poor second with 1,322 points.

The Sunspider measures JavaScript computing performance and in this test the lower score is better. Here, iPhone 6 scored the lowest 353.4 points while DROID Turbo came second with 828.2 points.

Coming to graphics, in the GFXBench T-Rex and Manhattan 3D on-screen tests, iPhone rendered maximum frames per second in both the tests with 49 FPS and 26 FPS respectively but iPhone 6 has the lowest screen resolution at 750 x 1334. Sony Xperia Z3 has a 1080p screen and rendered 29 FPS and 12.5 FPS. The other three have a whopping 2560 x 1440 resolution.  In the tests, DROID Turbo rendered 28 FPS and 11 FPS, Samsung Galaxy Note 4, 26 FPS and 11 FPS and LG G3, 21 FPS and 7FPS.

Thus we can see that Sony Xperia Z3 is the best performer among Android phones in the GFXBench benchmark but it has a lower resolution. The DROID Turbo is undoubtedly the king in QHD smartphones. In the T-RED test, DROID Turbo is faster than Galaxy Note 4 and in the Manhattan test it is at par with it. The LG G3, with its weaker graphics comes last.

The Basemark OS II is an all in one benchmark similar to the An Tu Tu and in this, Motorola DROID Turbo got the highest 1297 points, followed by iPhone 6 with 1239 points, Sony Xperia Z3 with 1099 points Samsung Galaxy Note 4 with 1038 points and finally the LG G3 with 951 points.

Motorola DROID Turbo is clear leader overall, showing an all round performance and it is the fastest QHD smartphone available currently to the users in America.

iOS 8 Is Finally Getting Widgets

The iOS has long been criticized by Android users for its lack of features. One feature which was missing for a long time was widgets. This iOS 8 concept from Ryan Gilsdorf indicates that iOS is finally getting widgits of its own. The iOS has a simple interface and thats all great, but it lacks a modern feel that most phones in the competition have had for a while.

iOS 8 concept given by Ryan Gilsdorf shows the addition of widgets through the Control Center. Users can swipe to choose between app widgets like music, calendar, weather and other third-party widgets and control apps from the home screen.

Some of the concept stuff looks kinda cool. Take a look yourself:

Some tweaks like the drop shadow option, icon radius slider, and transparency adjustment are what every jailbreaker wants to have on the iPhone. Although these new features look a little too elaborate compared to the iOS that we know.

The improved control centre gives you quick access to wifi and bluetooth settings. You can also access various other settings from there.

The app icon preference panel gives you control over settings like:

  • Turning the text under the icons on and off.

  • Removing drop shadows from app icons.

  • Choosing between bounded or freeform app icons.

  • Changing the radius of icons with a slider.

  • Choose between color icons or colorless icons.

  • Choose transparency of icons with a slider.

  • Searching the iPhone by swiping down.

  • Swiping up to access gesture based actions.

  • Assigning custom gestures to open certain applications.

  • Redesigned Siri interface.

  • You can also teach Siri new words now.

Apple iPhone 6 may be launched on September 19 this year

Apple iPhone 6 may well be set to launch on September 19, 2014. The iPhone 6 will be available at Germany’s biggest carrier Telekom and probably also in Apple stores, according to the German site Apfelpage.de . The staff at Telekom call center has been asked to tell the customers about the expected September launch of the iPhone 6 and tempt them to continue with the company.

Since the date of launch coincides with past few iPhone launches, it is quite possible that Apple iPhone 6 will be released in September this year. Also, September 19 is a Friday and Apple’s new models are always released on Fridays. Apple iPhone 5s and 5c had been released on September 20 and iPhone 5 was released on September 21, 2012. Looking to this trend, it is likely that iPhone 6 will be released on September 19.

In such a case, Apple will make an announcement about iPhone 6 a week or two before the launch and introduce the iOS 8 much before that, as it is traditionally in the habit of doing. iPhone models are usually first launched in the US, UK, Canada, China, Australia, Singapore, Japan, France and of course Germany.

New IPhone models planned by Apple are rumored to have bigger screens; one with a 4.7-inch display and another bigger one with a 5.5-inch display. Their hardware will also see a redesign, having a much thinner frame.
