Android 4.4.4 KitKat rolls out for Sony Xperia Z1, Z1 Compact and Z Ultra Smartphones

Sony had started rolling out Android 4.4.4 KitKat update with build number 14.4.A.0.108 for its Xperia Z1 Compact on June 26. The update is presently available in Russia, Indonesia and Italy, soon to follow in other countries. Now, the Japanese Company is also making the Android 4.4.4 (14.4.A.0.108) firmware available to its Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Ultra smartphones wef June 27.

News about the updates was revealed by the company on June 27 in its Twitter account “Sony Xperia News” which says that phased Android 4.4.4 KitKat will be rolling out for Xperia Z1, Xperia Z Ultra and Xperia Z1 Compact and includes improvements in apps, camera, security and more.

Sony’s product pages for Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1 Compact and Xperia Z Ultra also show the Android version as Google Android 4.4 (Kitkat) and the latest available software as 14.4.A.0.108. The updates for Z1 and Z Ultra are currently available in Russia, France, UAE and Turkey.

As this is a phased roll out, it will be available in a phased manner across various countries. Users can check for updates on their devices by going to Settings > About phone > Software updates > System updates. Owners of Xperia Z1, Z1 Compact and Z Ultra will be receiving their update notifications soon.

Sony releases teaser for the "next big thing", could be the Xperia Z Ultra successor

Sony has posted a teaser on its Twitter account asking fans to look out for “next big thing” which hints that the Japanese giant is on the verge of releasing something new, something big. Sony’s Xperia Z Ultra is big with its 6.44-inch display, a slim and stylish ‘phablet’. There is speculation that the new upcoming device from Sony might be the successor to Xperia Z Ultra.

The teaser pic shows the side view of a slim Sony handset and a red dressed girl standing next to it. The focus is on the phone, while the girl’s image is blurred. The phone is quite big and its power, volume and camera buttons can be seen. Sony has posted the following comment along with the photo:

”Shh… do you want to know a secret? Stay tuned for the next big thing this season.”

The blurred image indicates that it is a “secret”, that it is not clearly known yet, but that the image will become clear soon, so “stay tuned”. The use of words “next big thing” suggests the teaser may well be for the successor to big Xperia Z Ultra. It might be called the Xperia Z2 Ultra or the Xperia Z Ultra 2. Some believe the teaser might be for Xperia Z3, but since the Xperia Z2 has been launched just a few months back, this seems a remote possibility.
