The new Samsung Exynos 7420 SoC offers more power efficiency compared to 20nm processors

Qualcomm recently introduced its new Snapdragon 810 octa-core chipset that is likely to be seen in most of the flagship handsets for 2015. Now Korean giant Samsung is putting up a straight competition to Qualcomm as it is almost likely that the company would use its own home baked Exynos 7420 chipset for its next flagship the Galaxy S6.


The Exynos 7420 benchmark shows a new spectacular chipset giving almost similar performance to the Snapdragon 810 chipset and is designed with a 14nm process. The Exynos 7420 chipset that comes with an octa-core CPU and a Mali-T760 graphics support is said to consume almost 30-35 % less power as compared to the previous 20nm chipsets. Thus this might be the reason why Samsung has still preferred to keep only 2600mAh for its next Galaxy S6 flagship.


This new Exynos chipset is made with a three-dimensional FinFET transitor technology that over comes the limitations of 2D planar structure. This 14nm process is being used by Intel too for its desktops, but Samsung is the first company to bring it to mobile technology. The company is likely to continue using this process to its other NAND memory chips.


If the chip is a big success for its next flagship, we could probably see it making home to other flagship Galaxy handset coming ahead this year.
