Samsung Wireless Charging is Coming to Galaxy S6

Over the past few years, wireless charging comes to consumer market as a smartphone or smartphone accessories. The commercial products have mainly used the “magnetic-inductive” method of charging which involves coupling a device to some sort of physical dock, similar to the one that is used in the electric tooth-brush or shaver. There a few benefit for using this way of charging, with the most obvious benefit is the absence of power cords that are so easily tangled, broken or lost.

Some of the big players in this industry has established a series of organizations to standardize wireless charging technologies. There are three of such organizations: the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC), and its Qi standard, the Power Matters Alliance (PMA) and the Alliance for Wireless Power (A4WP). Samsung is a member of all three groups.

Samsung has been doing research and development for bringing wireless charging to Samsung smartphones as early as from 2010. In 2011, Samsung introduced its first commercial wireless charging pad for Droid Charge (SCH-i510) in the US. From then on, Samsung has provided wireless charging covers and pads as a core accessory alongside with flagship smartphones such as Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 in 2013 and the Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 4 last year.

It is expected that 2015, we should see more and more smartphone is using the wireless charging method to charge their smartphone. One of the smartphone being Samsung Galaxy S6. We will look forward to that.
