Google unveils Nexus 9

Google has just taken the wraps off the Nexus 9, and it’s a 8.9-inch slate, built by HTC — a company that’s an unusual choice, given the ample field of OEMs available. The Taiwanese gadget-maker is back with a 8.9-inch Nexus special that looks kind of like an oversized Nexus 5, though with an brushed-metal aluminum rim in place of the Nexus 5’s entirely soft-touch exterior.

The Nexus 9 boasts an 8.9-inch display, with 2048 x 1440 resolution (not relatively upto the iPad mini in terms of pixel density), 4:3 aspect ratio (as opposed to the Nexus 7’s widescreen dimensions) . It is only 0.31-inches thick, which is just a hair thicker than the iPad mini. There’s an 8 megapixel rear camera, and a 1.6 megapixel shooter on the front.

Google’s Nexus 9 is powered by an Nvidia Tegra K1 chipset and it has 2GB of RAM, plus both 16 and 32GB storage options. It also features the Kepler GPU with 192 shader cores that has shown it performs at the top of the charts, making the device a delight for gamers. It’s in fact the first tablet to ship with Nvidia’s new, dual-core 64-bit Denver CPU core architecture.

The Nexus 9 is the first tablet to run on Google’s new platform ANDROID 5.0 LOLLIPOP , showing what the tablet superior experience looks like. The tablet also comes with a large, 6700mAh battery that will last around 9 hours, according to the official specifications.

Google’s Nexus 9 goes up for pre-order on October 17th, and should hit the shelves on November 3rd. The 16GB model will go for $399, the 32GB model for $479, and a 32GB model with LTE built in will set you back $599.

In the United States, users will be able to buy the Nexus 9 on the Google Play Store, Amazon, Best Buy, Staples, Walmart, and others. T-Mobile will be selling the cellular version, with availability starting on November 12th.
