LG Lancet is the company’s first Windows Phone 8.1 handset

Korean tech giant LG, along with Verizon has recently announced its first Windows Phone 8.1 handset called as the LG Lancet. The handset comes with some mid-range specs and is affordably priced.

The LG Lancet has got a 4.5inch display with 480 x 854 pixel resolution. Under the hood lies a powerful quad-core Snapdragon 410 chispet clocked at 1.2GHz. the device has got 1GB of RAM memory and 8GB of expandable storage. To its back lies a 8MP primary camera snapper and to its front lies a VGA front-facing camera. Some other features of the handset include LG’s KnockOn. The handset has a battery capacity of 2100mAh offering 18.5 hours of seamless usage.

On-contract, the handset is available for just $19.99 and off-contract for $120. Take a look at some of the images.

Yezz Billy 5S LTE is the new Windows Phone 8.1 based smartphone

At the CES 2015, Miami based smartphone manufacturer Yezz announced its new Yezz Billy 5S that comes with LTE connectivity and is the third Windows Phone from the company. Last year the company had announced Billy 4.0 and Billy 4.7.

The Yezz Billy 5S LTE is a mid-range handset that hosts a 5-inch display with HD resolution of 720×1280 pixels. The handset is powered with a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 chipset clocked at 1.2GHz and comes with 1GB of RAM memory and 8GB of internal storage. To its back is a 13MP primary camera shooter and the front hosts a 5MP secondary camera. The device comes with Dual-SIM support and has a Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity apart from LTE. The device runs the latest available Windows 8.1.

The pricing for the device is yet not known however it is said that just like its other two silings, the company will put an affordable price tag for this too.

Yezz Billy 5S LTE is the new Windows Phone 8.1 based smartphone

Windows Phone 8.1 GDR2 rumoured to be released on October 8th

Windows Phone 8.1 GDR2 (General Distribution Releases) is rumoured to be released next month, on October 8^th to be precised. The platform is expected to support 2K and the Snapdragon 805 CPU.  It will also be running a Preview for Windows Developer Users which include the changes and improvements in first two weeks of October.

Some of the improvements in GDR2 version includes, sorting of settings in Windows Phone in the alphabetical order by default with an option for the Windows user to change it as per order that they wish to, like an app list; the availability of mobile data toggle in Action center as an option, as well as the Cortana will be available in more regions.

Cortana is a personal assistant in Windows Phone which will help make things easier for the user and keep the user up to date on things that is important to them. Cortana will likely to release in more European markets while another version, Alpha Cortana will be released in India, Australia and Canada.

Sylwester salek has revealed that Cortana will be available in Polish version in this GDR2 version.

New LG D635 running Windows Phone 8.1 pops up at AdDuplex

Although LG has not announced any new Windows Phone, an LG WP device D635 has popped up unannounced in the database of AdDuplex, the cross-promotion network for Windows. Early in the year, Microsoft had announced its Windows Phone hardware partners and LG was one of them. Now it looks like LG is working on a new WP device.

According to AdDuplex founder Alan Mendelevich, a new Windows Phone based handset D635 made by LG has showed up in the database of the company. The device sports a 5-inch display with 720p resolution and runs Windows 8.1 OS. Alan Mendelevich’s tweet regarding the same can be seen below:

Actually, LG’s Windows Phone 8.1 based handset Uni8 had showed up a few months ago. Nothing has been heard about it since then so it might as well be a hoax.  We do not know whether LG Uni8 and the LG D635 have any connection.  Unfortunately, no other information about the LG D635 has been mentioned but it appears to be a mid-range smartphone. The phone could be a prototype and the actual final product may or may see daylight.

Nokia Lumia 530 spotted in wild

Back in May, we spotted an image showing up the Nokia Lumia 530 and till now, Microsoft has still to make an official announcement for the same. A source from China has recently posted two new images of the Lumia 530 dressed in orange showing up the front and the back side of the device. The model as such looks quite similar to the earlier Lumia 520 and Lumia 525 models.

The Nokia Lumia 530 is rumored to be running Windows Phone 8.1 featuring some on-screen software buttons. The Nokia Lumia 530 is likely to host a 4.3inch screen with 480×800 pixel resolution. From the leaked image, we could make out that the rear camera doesn’t have an LED flash. Other features that could be expected from the device are Snapdragon 200 processor, dual SIM support and 512MB of RAM.

The already existing Lumia 635 which is based on Windows Phone 8.1 is priced for just $99 and now it seems that the Lumia 530 could be the cheapest Windows Phone 8.1 in the market. We will get to you soon as Microsoft has something official to say for it.

Xolo launches the world’s lightest Windows Phone 8.1 smartphone

Windows Phone OS is turning out to be very popular these days as many handset manufacturers are releasing their devices on this platform. Making its global presence strong, now many Indian handset manufacturers are releasing their Windows Phone based handsets. This month, we spotted Micromax venturing into the Windows Phone platform releasing their Canvas smarphones and now XOLO seems to join this club.

XOLO has launched its new Win Q900s and the company claims it to the lightest smartphone powered with Windows Phone 8.1 weighing just a 100g. the device is very sleek measuring just 7.2mm of thickness. The XOLO Win Q900s comes with a 4.7inch IPS Display with One Glass Display Technology and having a resolution of 1280×720 pixels. The device bakes a 1.2GHZ quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 CPU, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage along with an expandable storage facility up to 32GB through microSD cards. The XOLO Win Q900s is a dual SIM device. At the back lies a 8MP primary camera while the front has a 2MP secondary camera.

The device has a Li-Po battery offering a battery juice of 1800mAh. The XOLO Win Q900s will be available via online Indian retailer Snapdeal that is currently offering the device at a discounted price of Rs9999. Samsung brings a new camera Windows Phone 8.1 app for HDR and slow motion

Samsung has recently brought a new camera app on Windows Phone 8.1 to efficiently handle the HDR and slow motion video modes on their recently launched Samsung ATIV SE on Verizon. There is no denial to the fact that the new Windows Phone 8.1 has already brought some few advanced features to its camera that includes video editing and slow motion recording.

This new ATIV camera app coming from Samsung comes with load of options like Beauty Face, Auto, Best Face, Best Photo, Eraser, Rich Tone(HDR) and Night Shot. Different features have also been brought for video recording like Slow motion, Smooth motion and even capturing still images from the recorded video.

A bit disappointment for the Samsung ATIV owners is that the app would not be available to users at this moment of time. This app is based on Windows Phone 8.1 only and is expected to arrive with the upcoming firmware which Samsung is expected to bring it in coming weeks. Windows phone 8.1 support details revealed

Another update regarding Windows phone 8.1 has been revealed. Microsoft, the software giant has declared that it will lend a support to Windows phone 8.1 from the 24^th june of this year. It has also announced the dates when the support will end. The total period of support offered by Microsoft to Windows phone 8.1 is from 24^th june 2014 till 11^th july 2017.

Redmond has promised to make updated to the OS during this period including the security updates also. Hence, it means that a series of updates shall be made; therefore, to download the latest update provided, you must have already installed the previous one on your device. Albeit, the final decision of whether updates will be available or not remains in the hands of the manufacturer and carrier. So its good news specially for those who are under contracts. 

Windows phone 8.1 is been expected to be launched within a week along with Nokia Lumia 630. Besides, Chinese markets may receive the device anytime from now. Therefore, it means the updates will start coming as soon as Microsoft starts supporting it. Support for Windows phone 7.8 will expire in a couple of months after the support for windows phone 8.1 starts.

 

Probably it is time you update your device soon too.
