Microsoft Surface Pro 4 Featuring Intel Latest Skylake Chipset is Launching October This Year

Microsoft Surface Pro 4 is reported to launch in October this year. As the previous Surface Pro 3 sold about 300,000 units per months when it was initially launched, Microsoft is estimating that Surface Pro 4 could reach up to 500,000 to 600,000 units sold per month. The device is reported to maintain the thin tablet appearance and the large display screen with resolution of 2160 x 1440 with 216ppi which is the same resolution as found in the Surface Pro 3.

As for the hardware part, Surface Pro 4 could be running on either Intel’s Core M ‘Broadwell’ CPU or Intel’s Skylake processor, two of Intel’s latest processors. However, there is no confirmation on which of the processors which will be integrated to the tablet. Either way, Microsoft is aiming to maintain the performance, if not make it faster, while improving on the energy efficiency. The device will have screen size between 13 to 14 inch display sizes. The better news is that Surface Pro 4 will be priced lower than Surface Pro 3.  As for the software side, the device is expected to come pre-installed with Windows 10 OS.

Based on this specification itself, it seems like Surface Pro 4 will have minor improvements than Surface Pro 3.  More information of the device specification will be released nearer to the launch date. Stay tuned!

Microsoft Surface Pro 3 Teardown by iFixit

Last week the new Microsoft Surface Pro 3 tablet went on sale, and the guys at iFixit have already teardown Microsoft’s new Windows tablet apart. They took a new gadget apart looking at how the device is constructed, and how easy the components are to remove and substitute, the company then give the device a ‘Repairability Score’, so how did the new Surface Pro 3 tablet do?

The iFixit repairability score is ranged from 1 to 10, with one being the hardest to repair and 10 being the easiest to repair, and the Surface Pro only managed to score 1 out of 10.The reason for the low repairability score on the new Surface Pro 3 is due to a number of factors, which includes the battery being glued as well as soldered to the motherboard.

The new Window Surface Tablet also comes with a range of non standard connectors, which makes removing the display quite hard. Its display is also made from a fused glass panel and LCD.

One thing that can be substituted in the new Microsoft Surface Pro 3 is the SSD, although according to iFixit, this is also tricky as the tablet is hard to open. Head on over to iFixit, for lots more information and photos on their teardown of the new Surface Pro 3 tablet.

Microsoft Surface Pro 3: A tablet that can replace your laptop!

Available for pre-order since May 21 and hitting store shelves on June 20 is Microsoft’s brand new Surface Pro 3. The device features a 12-inch 2160×1440 display, significantly larger than the preceding Surface Pro 2′s 10.6-inch screen; a new 3:2 aspect ratio; an improved stylus; an improved Type Cover; a slimmer, lighter build; and a different home button placement.

The new Surface Pro 3 weighs only 1.76lbs (798 grams), compared to the Surface Pro 2′s weight of 2lbs (907 grams). It’s also substantially thinner, measuring 0.36 inches (9.1mm) thick compared to its predecessor’s .53 inches (13.5mm). Despite the slimming down, the device packs the newest 4th Generation Haswell processors from Intel, which are said to give up to 9 hours of battery life.

The cheapest model with an i3 Core processor and a 64GB SSD will cost $799. The next step up is $999 for the i5 version with a 128GB SSD, but there are also models with i7 processors and even larger SSDs.

For those who enjoy using the Surface on their lap, Microsoft has increased the kickstand’s range so that it now dips all the way down to a 150 degree angle. The new, wider Type Cover also has more room for the keys and touchpad, as well as an improved magnetic attachment that raises the keyboard slightly near the base of the device.

The improved stylus can open up a blank document on the Surface tablet with the click of a button now, even if the Surface is in sleep mode, but there is still no spot to store the pen on the device. However, Microsoft did make room for a full-size USB 3.0 port and front- and rear-facing 5MP HD cameras.

The device is scheduled to be released on June 20, 2014 in the US and Canada only; however, this is limited to the Intel Core i5 models, with the Intel Core i3 and Intel Core i7 models releasing on August 31, 2014. By the end of August 2014, the Surface Pro 3 will be available in 26 additional markets. Consumers can try out Demo units which will land at Microsoft stores  from June 6.

What do you think of the new Surface Pro 3?
