Prototypes of Nexus 8 tablet shipped to India, spotted in Indian import database

There have been a lot of rumors and leaks regarding Nexus 8 and people were expecting Google to launch the successor to Nexus 7 at the I/O event. But this did not happen. Now it so happens that four Nexus 8 tablets have been shipped to India in the past few days. They have appeared in the database of the Indian website Zauba that tracks import-export data.

In the database, it can be seen that two shipments have arrived at the Bangalore airport in India. The first shipment dated 30 June 2014 shows product description as” NEXUS8 PROTOTYPE TABLET SIMILAR TO NEXUS(7)” and consists of two units valued at INR 32,968. The second entry is dated 4 July 2014 and says “NEXUS8 PROTOTYPE TABLET” and this too consists of two units valued at INR 33,298. So the cost of one tablet will be around INR 16,500 – INR 16,700 which comes to about US $275 – $280.

Except for mentioning the fact that Nexus 8 is similar to Nexus 7, the database gives no other information such as specs etc. Name of the manufacturing company is not mentioned but since the Nexus Prototypes have come from the US, they may have come from Google itself.

Last month, there was a rumor that HTC was working on an 8.9-inch Nexus tablet codenamed Volantis tipped to be the Nexus 9. But now, it might as well be the Nexus 8 instead. The device will have a 2048×1440 p resolution and will be powered by NVIDIA Tegra K1 64-bit CPU with a 2GB RAM and two internal storage options of 16GB and 32GB. The tablet will have an 8MP rear camera and a 3MP front camera.

However, it has not been confirmed whether the HTC Volantis will be the Nexus 8 or Nexus 9 tablet. Other possible manufacturers of Nexus 8 are Asus and LG. Nexus 7 tablet has been developed by Asus, while Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 have been developed by LG.

We can hope for an announcement about the Nexus 8 from Google later this year. Maybe the company coincides the unveiling of Nexus 8 with the official release of Android L.

HTC has planned to launch a new model named HTC One M8 Prime Smartphone at the end of the year that will be 5.2-inch display. Moreover, HTC is supposed to replace the HTC One Max from the market because of dismal revenue in US and European market last year.

On the other hand, the rumor news sources believe that HTC is not going to announce the new Smartphones with Nexus 8 tablet in the upcoming I\O event. Instead, Google is supposing to hold another event to launch the product separately in the market in next months. However, HTC can be the next contenders who are going to give the design ideas to the next Nexus Tablet of Google.

However, Google has selected the brand ASUS to have the next 2 Nexus 7 tablets with design and other manufacturing tasks. At the same time, LG brand is also in the battle to get the order of making the Nexus tablet to give design ideas. But, HTC will be the strongest companions to other brands to give the disposing philosophy because of the greatest success with the HTC phones. T-Mobile provides Android 4.4.3 KitKat OTA update to Nexus devices

The first wave of Android 4.4.3 KitKat OTA(over the air) updates have been rolling out to Nexus and Google Play Edition devices  by T-Mobile.It comes with build numbers KTU84L for Nexus 7 and Nexus 4 and KTU84M for the Nexus 5.

The Android 4.4.3 KitKat will bring performance improvements, stability and bug fixes. With the update, the Nexus 5 has also received an improved dialler with updated interface that now shows images of the contacts in the dialler app and also shows images of the speed dial contacts.

Notably, the Android 4.4.3 KitKat update is an incremental update from Android 4.4.2 KitKat and brings security enhancements and various bug fixes. Further, Google is said to bring few more fixes with its new update which include fixes for data connection loss, random reboots, missed calls and various camera bugs. Other than existing bug fixing, the Android 4.4.3 is said to not bring anything significantly new in terms of features and UI interface. Further, Google Play Edition devices can also be expected to receive the Android 4.4.3 update soon.
