Samsung Galaxy Alpha to be discontinued by next February

Samsung is about to discontinue its Galaxy Alpha in the coming weeks. According to a report by ETNews, Galaxy Alpha will be replaced by Galaxy A5, which is set to launch in South Korea in early February. Production will come to halt once inventory for its materials is exhausted.

Galaxy A series smartphones will retain the Galaxy Alpha’s metal designs, but will settle for specifications to get a superior edge in the competitive mid-range smartphones segment. Moreover, Galaxy Alpha made headlines due to its attractive design but hasn’t been a great smartphone in terms of sales due to its high price tag. Samsung has to rethink their approach due to stiff competition from Chinese manufacturers in the price-aggressive smartphone market.

Analysts and insiders have acclaimed the Samsung’s choice. The Galaxy A5 is having “better price competitiveness based on specifications than its predecessors, and its design is thought to be better than that of the Galaxy Alpha.  It is rumored to be price at $361 (KRW 400,000), which is quite meaningful according to- Chang Jung-hyeok, VP of Atlas Research.

The Galaxy A5 features a 5-inch 720p display powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 410 chipset 2GB of RAM, a 13MP rear camera, a 5MP front camera, 2300mAh battery with an attractive metal unibody design. Currently, the Galaxy A5 is on sale in China and Russia and expected to arrive in February 2015 in South Korean market.

Samsung SM-A500: New Member Of Metal-Made Series With 5-Inch Display

Samsung SM-A500 Will Be A New Member Of Metal-Made Smartphone Series

Reports suggest that the Samsung SM-A500 will join the metal-made smartphone series of the company. This brand-new series of the Samsung contains only a single family member yet and that is Galaxy Alpha. Previously, rumors reported that SM-A500 would have the 720p display of 4.8-inch but now some features have been changed.

SamMobile reported that SM-A500 will have a bit larger display than thought previously. It is now expected that the phone would have the same pixel resolution with the 5-inch display. It has been reported also that this smartphone would have full metallic body. The back cover would also be metallic and non-removable, according to the reports. Galaxy Alpha doesn’t have full-metal body though and its rare cover is made from plastic.

No matter what the previous rumors have reported, but latest news from SamMobile suggested that the Samsung SM-A500 would be powered by Snapdragon 400 processor and not by a 64-bit Snapdragon 410 processor. Many mid-range smartphones go for the chipset choice reported by SamMobile for SM-A500, so there is an increase chance that this phone will have Snapdragon 400 processor.

Other features that SM-A500 may have are: 8 MP rear camera and the front-facing camera of 5 MP, internal memory of 16 GB, 2330 mAh battery and microSD card support to increase the storage capacity.

Samsung SM-A500 will surely have the premium touch because of its full metallic design and the features are also great; we can only wait till the launch of the phone to know what more it offers.

Galaxy Alpha might be announced tomorrow

The metallic Samsung Galaxy Alpha is everywhere these days. Recently, it has gone sailing in Russia without official announcement. It’s been alleged to sport a 64GB version as well – aside from the base model with 32GB (with no microsd card expansion support).

Now we are able to get another rumor about the date of its grand arrival in the market. A Korean media reported that Samsung is going to announce Galaxy Alpha on August 13.

This comes as a confirmation to an earlier mumbling from last month, which also had August 13 as the date of the outing. However, it is to be remember that the Alpha was said to launch on August 4, and that obviously hasn’t happened. So the newly report shouldn’t be trusted 100% either, but given how much the Galaxy Alpha has leaked over the last week, we wouldn’t be at all surprised if it does get the official announcement tomorrow.

The Galaxy Alpha will be powered by Samsung Exynos 5433 chipset, though it might get a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 for few markets such as South Korea – thanks to its SoC’s support for very high-speed LTE.

The smartphone also been rumored to have a 4.7-inch 720p display, a 12 MP rear camera,a 2.1 MP front snapper for selfies, 2GB of RAM, a fingerprint scanner and a heart rate monitor. It will be running on Android 4.4 KitKat OS.

The website has also few images for the device which confirms the specs for it. The Samsung Galaxy Alpha will have a model number SM-G850F. the handset is supposed to have a 4.8” display with a 1280×720 pixel resolution and would be powered by an octa-core Exynos 5433 processor which would be more powerful, in terms of performance, as compared to Galaxy Note 3 and the Galaxy S4. The device will be hosting a 12MP primary camera to its back while its front will be having a 2MP secondary camera. The device would have some memory options like a 2GB of RAM, 32GB of non-expandable internal memory. The device would be running the latest KitKat version Android 4.4.4 and is also tipped to have a heart rate monitor as well! The device is supposed to have a more solid built with an aluminum fram around its body.
