Nvidia"s Tegra K1 64-bit Version Launched

Since the 32-bit Tegra K1 mobile processor has been released it has been unrivaled in the SoC hardware market. It easily beats every other ARM SoC in terms of GPU performance and thats why it stands out from the rest.

The Nvidia 64-bit Tegra K1 system-on-a-chip is expected to be the the first 64-bit SoC from Nvidia which will have Android running on it.

We are getting more and more information about the architecture of the 64-bit Tegra K1 SoC chip. The 64-bit Tegra K1 has dual custom Denver CPU cores. It can run faster than the 32-bit Tegra K1. Apparently the 32-bit and 64-bit  versions are both pin compatible and should allow for an easier implementation of the chips.

It has a 7-way Superscalar microarchitecture. It can run 7 micro operations per clock cycle. This allows it to process fast and efficiently.

The Tegra K1 is innovative in that its the first 64-bit ARM processor for Android in the World. Its not just the hardware side of things that have grabbed our attention. The new and innovative “Dynamic Code Optimization” technology optimizes software routines that are frequently used. During runtime, the 64-bit Tegra K1 turns them into highly tuned microcode-equivalent routines. In other words, the instruction-level parallelism (ILP) found in the code is extracted only once and then used many times without being extracted again and again.

This chip is said to be able to provide the GPU processing power equivalent to that of consoles like the Playstation 3 and XBOX 360. The first device that is rumored to get this amazing SoC is the 8.9 inch Nexus tablet, HTC Volantis.
