After launching Windows 10, Microsoft is now getting ready to unveil its Windows 10 Mobile later this year and along with it possibly a couple of flagship Lumia smartphones. Recently, several images of a prototype of a new Microsoft Lumia smartphone have leaked online.

The two upcoming handsets that would run Windows 10 Mobile OS are being allegedly referred to as Lumia Talkman and Lumia Cityman internally. Rumors up till now indicated that they would be called Lumia 940 and Lumia 940 XL. However, other recent rumors suggest that Microsoft would be skipping the 940 series and branding the two handsets as Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL. Well, whatever the name, the handsets are the same.

The images leaked now show the prototype enclosed inside a case probably in order to hide its real shape. There is some debate whether it is the Lumia 950 or the larger Lumia 950 XL. The basic design of both is the same except for the screen size. However since the handset is hidden inside the case, it is difficult to say which one it is.

The rounded corners of the prototype are apparent. It sports a 2560 x 1440 pixels QHD Touchscreen and dual SIM functionality. The Lumia 950 (XL) is powered by Snapdragon 810 SoC, has a 3GB RAM and also a USB Type-C port. It has a 20MP camera with triple LED flash. Settings show that the camera has the capability to shoot videos of up to 90fps in 1080p and up to 120fps in 720p.

The prototype model number is RM-1116, build number is 10.0.10240 and it is running Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview.

Microsoft is expected to officially unveil the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL at its event to be held in October probably in New York. It is also expected to launch Surface Pro 4 and Microsoft Band 2 at the time.

Microsoft Upcoming Lumia Rumored To Have Front Facing LED Flash

Microsoft is rumored to be working on the next flagship smartphone for Lumia line. With the Microsoft Windows 10 launch which is most possibly soon, it is expected that the next Lumia smartphone will be launched not long after that with Windows 10 Mobile OS pre-installed. According to the rumors, it is expected that the handset will be launching in this year’s fall.

The next Lumia flagship handset will be known as Lumia 940. It is rumored to have a 5.2-inch full HD display screen with 1920 x 1080 resolution and will be running on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 808 processor with a 3GB RAM. As for the internal storage, it is expected to be 32GB with a microSD slot. The rear camera will be a 20MP while the front camera will be a 5MP. A recent rumor surfaced that the front camera of the handset will be integrated with a front facing LED flash units. If it is true, then, the users will be able to take a better quality of selfie. On the other hand, Apple is also rumored to integrate a front-facing LED flash to its upcoming iPhone6S handset too. However, nothing can be confirmed as of now.

It is also not confirmed whether Lumia 940 will be a higher-end handset or it is going to be a mid-end device. However, it is more likely to be a mid-end handset. The handset is expected to be released in November this year.

Microsoft launches new Hoop by Coloud headphones for Lumia Smartphones

Microsoft has launched a new Hoop by Coloud headset for Lumia smartphones, which it has developed in collaboration with a Swedish company, Coloud.  It is an in-ear headset meant for users with an active lifestyle. The Hoop has several “exercise-focused” features that can “handle your favorite workouts”.

The Hoop earpieces fit snugly in your ear and have an adjustable support loop which prevents them from slipping out of your ears. There is a reflective coating on the cable which helps to make you visible in the dark. You can easily reach the buttons to adjust the volume and you can also clip the cable to your clothes.

Technical specs for the Hoop by Coloud include speaker impedance of 32 ohm; frequency response of 20 hz to 20,000 Hz; stereo audio and 3.5 mm stereo headset connector. The headset weighs 20.5 g and has answer/end key and volume keys. Its cable is 120 cm long and tangle-free.

The Hoop is protected against dust, sweat and splashes, and operates at temperatures between 15⁰ to 40⁰C. It is available in three colors – orange, green and black, and costs €29.

Microsoft recommends using the Hoop by Coloud headset with Lumia 640 dual SIM, Lumia 640 XL LTE dual SIM, Lumia 640 LTE dual SIM and Lumia 640 XL dual SIM.

Lumia 1330 (RM-1062) pays a visit to GFXBench, 14MP rear camera and other specs confirmed

A few days back, there were rumors about a successor to Nokia Lumia 1320, the Lumia 1330, and it was supposed to have a big bump in the camera department along with upgradation in other specs . The rear camera supposed to go from 5MP to 14MP, while the front-facing camera from 1.2MP to 5MP.

Later, there were reports that two variants of Lumia 1320 successor – single SIM handset RM-1066 and dual SIM handset RM-1067- were spotted at the FCC. Now we find that Lumia 1320 successor (which might be named as Lumia 1330 or not) Model RM-1062, has been benchmarked at GFXBench.

The GFX Benchmark listing reveals specifications about the upcoming Lumia 1330. It is a phablet with a 5.7-inch 1280 x 720p display powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 400 (ARMv7) chipset and Adreno 305 GPU for graphics. For memory, the device will have 1GB of RAM (the screenshot shows the available memory which is 0.38GB) and 32GB of internal storage. As already mentioned, there is a 14MP shooter (4176 x 3120 resolution) at the rear and a 5MP selfie cam at the front.

Since the Lumia 1330 has passed through both GFXBench and FCC, its unveiling doesn’t seem far away. FCC certification had revealed that the phablet will have a new back cover and wireless charging. Model nos. RM-1062, RM-1063, RM-1064, RM-1065 of the Lumia 1330 have been earlier found in Adduplex database.

Gestures Beta app for Windows Phone allows you to handle your calls without touching its screen

The latest Gestures Beta app from Microsoft has brought some new functionalities to your Windows Phone. These features allow you to control some of the functions without touching the display of your Phone. With this first release of Gestures Beta, you will be able to control your calls and even mute the phone easily.

You can use the Gestures Beta app features in the following ways:

• To answer a call, pick up the ringing phone and place it to your ear


• To mute a call, place the phone display-side down on any flat surface, the caller will not be able to hear you


• To put a call on speaker, placing the phone on any flat surface with its display facing up


• To silence the ring of an incoming call, just flip down the phone’s display

All these actions can be done without touching the screen. The features have been demonstrated in the video below:

 

This is the first release of the Gestures Beta app, so new features could follow later as updates. It is a free app and can be downloaded from the Windows Phone Store. After installing the app, you will have to restart your handset before you can use the features. According to Microsoft Mobile, Lumia 530, Lumia 630 and Lumia 635 phones have limited functionality for the app.

Prototype of possible Lumia 1020 successor, Microsoft McLaren makes an appearance

Even as everyone is waiting for the next Lumia flagship from Microsoft, a new Nokia prototype device has popped up on a Chinese auction site Taobao. The phone listed on the site is Nokia RM-1052 and by the looks of it, seems to be a Lumia 1020 successor.

As you can see in the image below, the words “Prototype Property of Microsoft-Mobile” and “Not for Sale” are clearly printed on the back of the device.

 

As per the information seen on the screen, details of the prototype Nokia RM-1052 are:

We see that the phone has an aluminum body and a display of about 5-inch with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, a quad-core CPU, 2GB of RAM and 32GB internal storage, and it runs Windows Phone 8.1. Its camera bump is similar to that of Lumia 1020. So the Nokia RM-1052 may have a 41MP camera just like the Lumia 1020.

There is a speculation that this prototype might be that of Microsoft’s flagship “McLaren” handset that was supposed to use the contactless zoom in/out 3D Touch technology to control the device with gestures, without touching the screen. However, Microsoft later cancelled the plans to release McLaren. There is also a possibility that this is just some other Windows Phone prototype.

First Microsoft Lumia phone leaked images

Microsoft-branded Lumia phone has reportedly been leaked and there is no Nokia name on it. Less than 2 weeks ago, Microsoft officially announced it was dropping the name Nokia from its Lumia series smartphones.

A Chinese website Teena has put up an image of a Microsoft-stamped smarpthone on its site that is widely believed to be the new Lumia phone from the US tech giant and there is no name of Nokia anywhere on the phone, not on the front nor the back.

There is a name Microsoft on the back of the phone with the logo of Windows. The smartphone is said to be named Microsoft Lumia RM-1090. Inside, the device will supposed to have a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 200 CPU, 1GB RAM, 8GB storage, with microSD support up to 64GB, and a 1900mAh battery.

The dual-SIM enabled, 145.7g handset will support 900, 1800, 850, and 1900MHz signal frequencies, measure 140.2 x 72.5 x 9.32mm, and be available in black, white, grey, blue, orange and green.

Unlike many previous models, the speaker will be a lozenge-shaped opening in the centre of the bottom quarter of the phone, rather than a circular opening in the bottom right-hand corner.

After the much hyped acquisition in April this year for USD 7.2 billion, the US tech giant renamed the Nokia Mobile to Microsoft Mobile. In the last week of October, Microsoft announced it was dropping the name Nokia from its Lumia series phones.

Rumours: The Facade Of The Next Microsoft Smartphone Leaked?

Although the authenticity of the images cannot be confirmed, above is the allegedly design of the front end of the next smart phone which is developed by Microsoft. It was published by French website NowhereElse. The photo displayed a large handset with thin bezels and possibly a new flagship (which of course, it is just a wild guess).

From the first impression, there is a speculation that it might be the design of the next model to the Lumia icon / Lumia 930. Assuming that this is correct, there is a possibility whereby it can turns out to be a nice looking smart phone.

On side note, unfortunately there are some rumours that Microsoft could drop Nokia branding from its future Lumia smartphones series. The timeline is by the end of the year. Although this rumours are yet to be confirmed. If it is going to be happened in the future, then the recently announced Lumia 830 and Lumia 730/735 could be the last Nokia-brand Windows phone ever. The Nokia brand would also be disappear from the electronic shop whereas the Lumia range project will still continued.

Microsoft May Ditch "Surface", Its Tablet Name For "Lumia"

It was close to three months ago that the news of Microsoft completing the acquisition of Nokia’s handset unit for $7.3 billion hits the internet. Shortly afeterwards, Microsoft started making moves to streamline branding and naming starting with the headset unit itself which was renamed “Microsoft Mobile”.

What seems to be another move to further streamline naming is Microsoft’s purported interest in licensing the Nokia brand. Eventhough there has been no official statements from Microsoft or Nokia for that matter, some reports also claim that the tech giant could also start using Lumia and ‘Nokia by Microsoft’ brand names for its tablets (the Surface series) and smartphones respectively.

This was reported later last week by @evleaks, a well-known tipster in the mobile arena. According to the report by @evleaks, “This is pretty exciting: Microsoft is reportedly in the final stages of licensing the Nokia brand, for the purpose of calling the handsets “Nokia by Microsoft.” Furthermore, say goodbye to Surface, and hello to Lumia, as the tablet lineup faces brand streamlining.”

Some people believe the allegations to be true especailly considering that the Nokia brand is more familiar than that of Microsoft in many parts of the world excepting the US. And this could be an attempt by Microsoft to extend its market outside the US. On top of that, @evleaks has a track record of releaseing reports and rummors that often turn out be true. But whether or not those changes will actually be made is something that only time can tell.

Cortana And Toy Robots Combined Into Nanabot

Along with its high intellectual abilities even, windows phone’s voice auxiliary, cortana, is nothing greater than a lot of animation talking to you. A project by Indiegogo – named Nanabot – offers something different than Cortana. By joining the excellence of WowWee’s robo toys with technical abilities of Lumia phone by Nokia, the inventor Robert Oschler made the combination so unique which is quite fascinating. The robot does not have any control by itself and the Cortana doesn’t have a body, so Oschler planned a mixture which is yet to be invented but it has been named Nanabot already. The question that arises is that although it is a great idea, the name of the project is good but what it will do and how it will work?

Oschler planned a Windows mobile app along with codebase which will be formed similar to the voice recognition system of the Cortana and he also devised Smartphone-powered robot system named RoboME. The application portion would run on Lumia that would be attached to WowWee robot. For the robo, it will allow plenty of tricks to be accessible at a time. Some specialty of the nanabot would be that it will have the ability to play unique games with you. Your room would be guarded by it, it would ask questions to the people who are they and when they got in. It would be able to remember DVDs and books that you will show her, it would be able to identify even your cat’s face and so many other fun features it will have.

If Oschler achieves the amount of funds he requires to complete his goal, then he thinks of launching open-source toolkit which will make it easy for developers to produce RoboME applications. It will help in buying and playing easily with RoboMe robot and a windows mobile phone. By using Oschler’s toolkit, a developer will be able to control RoboMe’s actions, infrared object sensors, core LED and auditory entry. It would be quite interesting that what this Nanabot will become in future how far it will go. Still the responsive robots which will be moving around us are really far to come in future.
