Half Life 2 and Android 5.0 Coming to NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet

Nvidia has announced its latest product which focused more on gaming capabilities in their Shield Tablet.  The table will be running on Android 5.0 Lollipop and stating from November 18, the software upgrade will become publicly available for Shield Tablet owner.


On top of that, Nvidia has revealed that it will be partnering with Valve to bring the optimized version of Half-Life 2: Episode One to the tablet too. This new addition will also be included the game and Portal as part of Green Box bundle which is free when you purchase 32GB/LTE-enabled Shield Tablet for $399 through Nvida’s webstore and also online retailer. However, Nvidia have not decided until when this promotion will end.


The new Shield Tablet will comes with 192-core Tegra K1 chip which offers gamers with a unique blend of performance, value and serious gaming chops. A few media has named it as one of the top tablets to consider for their holiday gift guides and buying lists.


SHIELD tablet’s preloaded Dabbler app is also included in this update. Apart from the new interface inspired by Lollipop’s material design language, the software will also comes with full support for layers and users can now share live Dabbler sessions over Twitch.


Four other new SHIELD-optimized games which is available through Google Play:


-. OddWorld: Stranger’s Wrath – a drifter turned bounty hunter is set loose in this sprawling action-adventure game.


-. Pure Pool – superb visual effect and multi-player action make for a sophisticated take on a virtual pool hall.


-. Strike Suit zero – Born Ready Games’ space combat game features sprawling space battles gamers can experience on SHIELD’s 8-inch display or big-screen TVs.


-. Turbo dismount – The legendary crash simulator is now on Android, with smooth full resolution 4x MSAA visuals on SHIELD tablet.

The TEGRA K1 8-inch NVIDIA Shield tablet with game controller to be launched for $300

NVIDIA is all set to announce its 8-inch tablet along with game controller tomorrow on July 22nd and will release the devices on July 29 in US and next month on August 14 in Europe. Just a day before official announcement, the slides for the internal presentation have been leaked online.

As rumors had been going on since long, the NVIDIA Shield would be powered with the TEGRA K1 mobile chipset which is supposed to device twice the powerful GPU performance as compared to the existing platforms like Snapdragon 800 and Apple A7. The tablet with host a 8inch screen having full HD 1080p resolution with IPS display. Two stereo speakers are likely to be mounted on the front panel along with a 5MP camera at the front and back. The device would come with some connectivity options like GPS and WiFi MIMO. The NVIDIA Shield tablet will host a built-in advanced system called Direct Stylus 2 with 3D paint.

The company is also going to bring the NIDIA Shield game controller which would be compatible with the Shield tablet and other Shield hardware. This is a wireless game controller and could be connected by Wi-Fi Direct feature and comes with a Li-Ion battery inside it. The NVIDIA Shield game controller will cost $60 whereas the 16GB Wi-Fi only version of the NVIDIA Shield tablet will cost $300 and the 32GB Wi-Fi+LTE variant will cost $400.
