You can now send directions to your Android phone from your computer via Google Search

Google has introduced a new web feature with which you can send map directions to your Android phone even before you start out from your office or home.  If you are going someplace and don’t know how to get there, you can now send directions from Google Search to your Android phone in advance before you start.

For this, your phone must be linked to your Google account. Once you have made sure it is, you have to just type “send direction” in the Chrome omnibox or Google’s homepage. After that, type out the address where you want to go. If you have multiple devices, check at the top right corner to see that you are sending directions to the correct phone. You can use the prompt to select the correct Android device. Choose the route and click on the “Send directions to my phone” link present at the bottom.

The Google Maps app in your Android phone receives the directions. When you get in your car, open Google Maps in your phone and it will show you the map with the location you have typed. When you click the navigation icon, you will get directions to your destination.

Readers may recall that Goggle has recently introduced the “Find my phone” feature on Google Search to locate your misplaced or lost phone.

Use ‘ Find my Phone ’ on Google Search to locate your missing Android phone

In your day to day life there are numerous occasions when you misplace your phone and can’t seem to find it.  Now finding your misplaced Android phone has been made easier by Google. Just type in the words ‘ Find my phone ’ in Google Search on your desktop.

If your phone is hidden somewhere nearby say under the pillow, under the sofa or bed or somewhere in the kitchen, Goggle will give it a ring and you can find it easily. If you have forgotten it somewhere outside say a restaurant or a shop, Google will show you its location on the Google map.  You will also be able to see your Android phone’s make and model number. For this, you need to have the latest Google app version installed on your phone according to the Google+ post.

While Android Device Manager is already there to track your Android devices linked with your Google account, you have to first get your account’s ADM menu. In comparison, ‘ Find my phone ’ is easier to use and if you are using Chrome, you can also give a voice search. Just say the words ‘ Find my phone ’ and the browser will do it for you.

Changes on Google’s Search Algorithm Will Be More Mobile Friendly

Starting on 21 April, Google is making changes on their search algorithm to display the search result order in the manner whereby the websites who are mobile-friendly to be ranked at the top followed by the rest of the websites for users who search something from their phone. This approach was taken because there are about 60% of online traffic comes from mobile and Google wants them to have a good experience when they click on the link from the search page.

The groups of people who are affected by the change is the small business(es) as well as the people who do not know about this change.  They might find that the number of visitors to their websites dropped significantly and it is going to be bad for the business. However, not only small businesses will get affected by the change, big brands such as American Apparel or The Daily Mail will get affected provided if they did not update their website in time.

When we talk about Google, it always related to content. However, it seems like user experience is also important. If the content is there but it is difficult to read, it does not provide a really good experience for the users.

The change has been nicknamed “Mobile-geddon” because of the impact it has to millions of websites.

Google and Twitter Reaches Deal to Show Tweets on Google Search Results

Google and Twitter has reached an agreement which allows Google to access to Twitter’s data stream. Twitter is a microblogging site for about 284 million users. Prior to this agreement, Google had to crawl the Twitter’s site for information whereas after this agreement, the data is ready immediately.

From this agreement, tweets from Twitter will be visible for non Twitter user and thus generating more advertising revenue from wider internet users. On top of that, Twitter also provides data to Microsoft Corp’s Bing search service and Yahoo! Inc, hoping to draw in more users as the growth of Twitter is slowing down during the last few years.

Google and Twitter has similar deal from 2009 to 2011. However, Ali Rowghani, the Chief Operating Officer of Twitter during that period did not want to renew the agreement as to have more control to the Twitter’s content. However, it does not work according to plan.

Twitter stock increased 4.2 percent to $42.45 at 7:03am New York time, which increased 14 percent this year.

There is no advertising revenue from this Twitter and Google agreement. Twitter will receive data-licensing revenue which is total up to $41 million in the third quarter, up from $16 million on previous year.

Google updates Android apps Play Games, Play Music and Search

Google has updated a few of its key Android apps namely, Play Games, Play Music and Google Search.

*Google Play Games

The Google Play Games app has been updated to version 1.6.07 (1129543-38) (Android 4.0+). This app provides a redesigned slide-out navigation bar and shows notifications for gifts and requests. Also, the linked Profile pic has replaced ‘My Activity’ and ‘Matches’ has been renamed as ‘Inbox’ now.

*Google Play Music

The Google Play Music app has been updated to version 5.5.1509O.1140258 (Android 2.2+). This app offers more controls over your playlists as you can edit them. You can also share the playlists if you make them public first.

* Google Search

The Google Search app has been updated to version 3.4.15.1143430.arm (Android 4.1+). This includes ‘Automatic parking detection’ that will help you to find the location where you have parked your car. You can see parking location cards in Google Now.

Other new features include:

• A centralized list for nicknames now available under ‘Accounts & privacy’


• ‘Help’ and ‘Send feedback’ changed to a single item ‘Help & feedback’


• Some of the settings can be opened by voice


• Offline mode does not clear all cards; it keeps cards from the last update


• Detailed Watch now card available with episode numbers and other data
