Samsung Electronic and TSMC Compete to be the First Company to Produce 10nm Chipset

Samsung Electronic and TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co Ltd) is competing to be the first company who produce 10nm process chipset.  Samsung Electronic has bypassed the production of 20nm chipset last year and went straight to produce 14nm chipset and thus the company secured orders from Apple and Qualcomm. This year, TSMC is skipping 14nm chipset production and going direct to produce 10nm chipset. Hopefully, by using this method, TSMC is able to secure orders from Apple and Qualcomm, two of the company’s biggest customers.

As reported by Taiwan’s local media, TSMC will start the risk production of its 10nm process chipset by second quarter of next year. Risk production can be seen as the final testing phase which is aimed to increase the yield rates before the full mass production.  The mass production is expected to be somewhere as early as second half of next year. The negotiation with Apple and Qualcomm is expected to be around this period too.

After the 10-nm foundry process is implemented, the clock rate of application processors (AP) is expected to be up 20 percent while the power consumption is expected to be down 40 percent compared to the 14nm FinFET process.

Samsung Electronic, on the other hand, announced that its 10-nm foundry process is made possible from the end of 2016 and that the company is planning to expand the market share of the existing 14nm FinFET chipset first. At the moment, it seems like TSMC is a step ahead in the race. TSMC is also reported to have invested US$1 billion on this 10-nm process chipset in order not to lose with Samsung Electronic.

However, there is still possibility that Samsung Electronic will push the production date to be earlier as to win order from Apple so that its performance can be improved. The company has unveiled the actual 12-inch wafer using its 10nm process in May 2015 which is seen as unusual move from the company.

TSMC Will Supply A9 Processors To Apple As The Primary Supplier Not Samsung

TSMC Will Supply A9 Processors To Apple As The Primary Supplier Not Samsung

Apple and Samsung have been a great competition for each other in the field of technology for last few years. Other than the criticism over general and obvious status, Samsung is still the major manufacturing partner of Apple, which was verified by Tim Cook several times.

Lately, Apple has distant itself from Samsung and has been approaching different companies. As 2015 has arrived it has been cleared that TSMC would be responsible for manufacturing Apple’s A9 processor.

Taiwanese Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, shortly TMSC, has been in business with Apple sky-rocket for the past few years. Other than that, Touch ID fingerprint sensor is one of the chief productions of TMSC.

While Samsung has managed to build such processor which is new in technology, it was supposed that A9 processors’ leading manufacturer would be Samsung but it turned out that TMSC would be taking this responsibility instead.

A report from Taiwan stated that the chief supplier of the processor would be TMSC, which has already providing 70 percent of A8 processors. It was whispered that Samsung would hold a greater part of manufacturing this time but according to Taipei Times Apple will continue with its present setup.

All this report was presented to make clear that Samsung will continue to produce A9 chips and it has already made a deal with Apple, but TSMC will have the greater responsibility than the South Korean technology giant.

By expanding the manufacturing process with the help of several companies, Apple will have minimum amount of risk. Even the TSMC got the major burden, but Samsung will remain behind-the-scene image of presenting iPhone 6s and iPhone 7 in the market.

WSJ report confirms Apple receiving A8 processor from TSMC

Well, with days moving ahead, it seems news for the iPhone are rolling more and more. According to a recent report from the Wall-Street Journal, the Cupertino giant has already started receiving the its next A8 processors for the upcoming iPhone 6 from Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. In addition to this, the companies have likely joined hands for working on other projects as to making a nanometer chip manufacturing technology which TSMC plans to unveil next year in 2015.

The recent publication from WSJ shows that Apple and TSMC are working together on manufacturing forward thinking ships. This could be a great news for the Taiwanese chip-maker as it could possibly make up for the research investment required for the same which could ultimately boost up their revenue considerably. Analysts have predicted that 10% of the company’s revenue could be fetched itself from Apple’s order.

There had been previously this news that the Taiwanese chip-maker had already started the production of a 20-nanometer A8 chip. Reports also showed that many engineers from the company were moved to Apple headquarters to ensure the quality of production.

Moreover, recent reports coming out of China and Taiwan show that 68 million iPhone 6 orders for 2014 have already been kept. This is really a sizeable amount as last year in 2013 Apple managed to achieve a score of 51 million sales for its iPhone 5s. However, for the moment it is still unclear as to whether the 68million includes both iPhone 6 with 4.7inch and 5.5inch together or individually. Well, with the release date getting closer we will surely get you up with more surpises coming out. Stay tuned to Doi-Toshin!

iPhone 6, iPad Mini 2 & iPad Air with Touch ID Fingerprint Sensor

a few months ago, a rumor spread throughout the tech news and websites that touch ID fingerprint sensors features will be in the new iPad Air 2, iPhone6 and iPad mini 3 Apple models. Now, this rumor is very close to be in reality. Recently, China has reported that next-generation of Apple phones with Touch ID sensors are completed and ready to launch in the market too!

Apple next generator Smartphones have got fingerprint technology from the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) industry. The relationship between Apple and TSMC is increasing highly with the signed deal with this company to make some chips for upcoming tablets and Smartphones. In fact, this Taiwan Company has become the biggest supplier of Apple Company.

The unpleasant meeting in court with the company, Apple has linked with TSMC. However, Apple designs the chips and other company builds them.

However, the release date of the first batch of Touch ID Sensors is not announced yet! But, this indicates that Apple is busy with preparing the lineup and launched newly featured Smartphones to the market.

However, Touch ID fingerprint sensor feature has already available in the iPhone 5S too! However, any iPad and iPod do not have any Touch ID fingerprint technology till now. When Apple is asked why iPad Air did not have the features? Very simple answer coming from the Director that iPad designer and developer team did not find out the way to put this feature to the previous Smartphone.

This time the iPad team has found the way to put Touch ID fingerprint sensor on iPad Air and iPad Mini with good software development and design.

Now, this is the waiting time for the new report on the release date of the first batch Touch ID sensors in the new Smartphones of Apple.
