The New Apple TV Comes with Siri and A8 CPU

There are a few reasons to celebrate with the new Apple TV from Apple. Although they are just rumors, however, they do sound really exciting. One of it is that the price is slashed to starting from $69 from $99 previously. This is believed to make room for its successor. This announcement was found on Apple’s webite. The second reason for celebration is that new Apple TV box itself will come with new design and new hardware.

The new Apple TV will be running on A8 CPU processor which is also found on iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. On top of that, it will also support 4K video playback. It is kind of surprising since the current Apple smartphone devices still do not support 4K video recording even though all of them are using the same processor chip.

Furthermore, the internal storage is increased to beyond 8GB which means that it can accommodate more apps than its predecessors. It also comes with an improved operating system for the hardware which will also support Siri voice control for Apple TV. This means that it enables the remote selection of Homekit-enabled home automation.

If all of the above good news is not enough, Apple will also introduce the new HBO Now streaming service for the latest Apple TV.  If all these rumors turn out to be true, it will be announced at the upcoming Apple Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) in San Francisco in June 2015.

Apple in talks with TV programmers to start its own web-based pay-TV service

Over the past few years, we have been hearing plenty of talk about Apple entering the TV business. This may finally be happening now. A report suggests that the company is planning to step into web-based pay-TV business soon.

According to re/code, industry sources say that Apple is currently talking to TV programmers to work out deals so that it could offer TV content to consumers over the internet. The company would bundle up several TV channels and sell it directly over the web to consumers in its own way, using its own interface and consumer experience.

Sources say that Apple would not offer the whole TV channel lineup that the Pay-TV providers usually provide, but it will offer specific TV programming, trying to revolutionize the pay-TV business in its own way.

As re/code puts it, “The theory is that Apple would put together bundles of programming — but not the entire TV lineup that pay-TV providers generally offer — and sell it directly to consumers, over the Web. “

Although Apple has shown demos of its proposed pay-TV service to the programmers, talks are still in initial stages with some programmers yet to even begin talks with the company. So terms such as timing and pricing are still a long way from being considered.

Apple has been trying to get into the TV business since many years and has tried several different strategies in the past to no avail. It had earlier tried to plan out something with cable providers but it didn’t work out. So now Apple has apparently decided to leave them alone and work instead with TV content owners.

Sony and Dish have already set up deals with programmers to offer linear TV and video-on-demand via internet. So far, Apple’s role in the TV business was limited to Apple TV box that streams web content to traditional TV. Now Apple wants to sell the actual TV content as well.
