Google has always tried to make people’s lives better. Recently Google are in talks with Hutchison Whampoa to allow Americans to use their phones aboard with no extra costs. Hutchison Whampoa owns mobile operator Three as well as mobile service in UK, Ireland, Italy and several more countries. Both companies have been finding ways to eliminate roaming charges for Three customers.
Recently Google has announced that the company plans to launch a mobile network. However, instead of building its own mobile masts, the giant tech company will rely on wholesale deals to use the existing infrastructure in home and aboard. By working together with Hutchison Whampoa, Google is able to gain access to the company’s existing networks whether it is locally or internationally.
Google has used similar method for the US fixed-line telecoms market with Google Fiber. This is part of the project to establish fibre optic networks in areas where there is no or little development in internet infrastructure. On the other hand, according to a few sources, it seems like Google has no plans to offer its own mobile network to British consumers in the near future as the pricings are relatively competitive and the roaming charges are going to be abolished by regulators soon.
There is no official announcement from Google and Three.
