It is good news from Star Wars fans out there. Lucasfilm is working on an anthology version of Star Wars and the movie will be called Rogue One. The story came about from John Knoll who is the expert of special effects shop ILM and co-creator of Photoshop. He pitched the idea to Lucasfilm’s President Kathleen Kennedy when she was just taken over the position.
The storyline is about a group of resistance fighters stealing plans for the Death Star from the Empire. It will be directed by Gareth Edwards who was also the director of Godzilla in 2014. The movie promises to be dark and gritty, similar to Zero Dark Thirty or Saving Private Ryan. Apparently, the theft of the plans was referenced a few times in book and video games after the release of “A New Hope”, however, it was removed a few years ago and the content was rebranded as “Legends”. Therefore, technically it is never officially happened and thus Edwards has the freedom to come out with new storyline.
If everything is going smoothly, Rouge One will start to film this summer and expected to be released to the theaters in December 2016.
