Starbucks and Duracell team up to make wireless charging Powermats

Battery maker Duracell is likely to team up with Starbucks to bring nearly 100,000 Powermats at Starbucks outlet in San Francisco area. This means that people who visit the café would be simultaneously able to charge the smartphones through the wireless charging Powermats. This initiative made by Starbucks is expected to grow larger as the wireless Powermat concept would spread across different regions of US market in the upcoming months. However, this wireless charging technology would be based on PMa standards rather than the Qi one.

The will give users the relief of rather using only compatible devices like HTC, BlackBerry, ZTE, Samsung and others which come with the Qualcomm chipsets supporting the Qi wireless charging standards. Here is what the Duracell President Stassi Anastassov had to say regarding this news – “Starbucks is transforming the way consumers get power to their phones, in much the same way it made WiFi a standard amenity in public places. This endeavor is a critical step in Duracell’s vision to make dead battery anxiety a thing of the past.”
