Android 4.4.4 update now rolling out to Nexus devices

Google has started sending another KitKat (Android 4.4.4) update before going to next big firmware release. The KitKat OTA update is available to stock Android models like the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7 (WiFi), Nexus 7 (2012) and the Nexus 10. The new build (KTU84P) update reportedly is nothing more than a security fix. It contains a patch for an OpenSSL bug, which would have allowed a man-in-the-middle attack. This is similar to the Heartbleed bug that was tackled in 4.4.3 update.

Usually, the Nexus devices are the first to receive the latest Android build, followed by the Google Play edition devices. The latter are stock Android versions of certain handsets. Without the usual skins and bloat ware, these variants receive Android updates well ahead of the regular models stuffed with the manufacturer’s software.

4.4.4 update

While the factory images for the Nexus devices are already up for download, Google is rolling out the OTA update in batches, which means that it won’t show up instantly on your device.Keep in mind that the above update will fail if you have rooted your device since the zip file will first check if the system partition has been modified in any way or not. It might also fail if you have some system apps disabled.
