Samsung announces its 4GB LPDDR4 RAM modules. Tipped to hit smartphones and tablets in the early 2015

Well, the days are not much away when we would first get to see the laptop equivalent 4GB of RAM modules in our smartphones and tablets. Korean tech giant Samsung has announced that the company has just started the mass production of the first 4GB LPDDR4 mobile DRAM modules for smartphones. The chipsets are built with the 20nm process technology that offers an input/output data rate of up to 3200Mbps. These RAM modules would also be equipped to UHD video recording and playback and shoot high-resolution images of over 20MP while consuming only 40% of power as compared to the existing LPDDR3 ones. This power saving functionality holds true for all LPDDR4 modules many it be 2GB or 3GB RAM devices.

The company is currently selling the LPDDR4 2GB and 3GB RAM modules in the market. Samsung experts have said that the 4GB LPDDR4 chips would be available in the market in early 2015. With the Samsung Galaxy S6 tipped to be arriving at the CES 2015, we can even expect a surprise with the 4GB RAM inside it.

4GB LPDDR4 RAM

Here is what Samsung’s VP of Memory sales & Marketing, Joo Sun Choi has to say: “By initiating production of 20nm 8Gb LPDDR4, which is even faster than the DRAM for PCs and servers and consumes much less energy, we are contributing to the timely launch of UHD, large-screen flagship mobile devices.” We believe that with too much buzz going these days for 4k handsets it would not be too late to see the devices equipped with 4GB RAM.
