Automated Check in Process is the Future for Starwood Hotels

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc is implementing a new system which will allow the customer to check-in and access their hotel room conveniently.  It will be using a mobile application. Therefore if the customer has arrived in the hotel, the app will push a notification to the guest notifying that they have already checked-in and once the room is ready, the app will show the room number and Bluetooth key.

In this way, the customer can bypass the front desk and open their room by touching their smart phone to the lock. Starwood assigned Assa Abloy to design the Bluetooth-enabled locking device as well as the software and security protocols that allo the door to safely interact with the app. As of now, the service is already available to clients with Starwood Preferred Guest status. The app is compatible with smartphones running on iOS 8 on an iPhone 4S or later and Android 4.3 and above.

The SPG Keyless system is the name of this system. It is due to go live on Nov 5 in several hotels including locations in Hong Kong and downtown New York.  However, this is just the beginning as the hotel and resort gian is planning to roll out the sytem into 150 hotels, totaling 30,000 doors.

Hopefully, in this way, the stress of handing the traditional check in process for some customers will be greatly reduced and it will increase the satisfaction level during the stay for the customer.
