Imagine your three smartphones connecting together to form a folding tablet having a big screen. Well, this kind of a thing is possible. The people at Nano Magnetics have made this possible. Nano Magnetics have developed a magnetic connector called Nanoport that allows wireless power and data transfer between two or more devices.
Nanoport was announced by the company at the CES 2014 held at Las Vegas where they showed a mock-up. According to SlashGear, Nano Magnetics will bring out the real working model at the CES 2015 to be held in Las Vegas this coming January. You will be able to see multiple devices connected together with magnetic connections and transferring data to each other. When several smartphones are linked together this way, their screens combine to offer a larger screen. Nanoport also allows for secure and high speed data and power transfer between the devices without the use of wires.
With Nanoport, devices can be arranged in various dynamic configurations. Apart from smartphones, Nanoport can also be used to connect batteries, cameras, speakers, controllers and other devices to create unique combinations.
“Nanoport effectively turns electronics into building blocks that can be combined to create new devices, then reconfigured for alternate uses,” says Tim Szeto, CEO and Founder of Nano Magnetics. “Nanoport gives us new ways to interact with our devices, and new ways for devices to interact with each other.”
With Nanoport, touch devices such as smartphones can be used as alternate interfaces and to enhance capabilities of electronic devices, appliances and vehicles. The company will also be supplying developer kits to app developers and hardware manufacturers so that they can develop and build Nanoport-enabled devices.
A few questions come to our mind such as: On which phones Nanoport will work on? What if the smartphones used have different resolutions and screen sizes? Will it change the images to make them appear even and not distorted? Hopefully, answers to all these questions will be revealed soon at the CES 2015.
