HTC rumored to launch a new MediaTek Octa-Core Phablet

Not much time has elapsed since HTC unveiled its HTC Desire 820 at the IFA 2014 in Berlin and already there are rumors that the Taiwanese Smartphone maker is preparing to launch a new 5.5-inch phablet that will be powered by MediaTek Octa-Core SoC Processor.

Leakster @upleaks has posted a tweet on Twitter, saying that the specs of the upcoming HTC phablet will be “almost the same as Desire816” but there will be a change in the chipset and RAM. No further details about the processor are provided but the new HTC phablet will most likely have MediaTek’s MT6595 octa-core processor.

The existing HTC Desire 816 has a Qualcomm MSM8928 Snapdragon 400 chipset. Regarding RAM, there is a 1.5GB of RAM in Desire 816 but @upleaks does not specify whether the RAM in the new phablet will be less or more than this. It could be a 2GB RAM with the octa-core chipset, but this is just a guess.

Since the other specs are rumored to be the same, we can expect the upcoming smartphone to feature a 5.5-inch Super LCD2 capacitive touchscreen with 720 x 1280 pixels resolution and 267ppi pixel density. It will sport a 13MP camera at the back with LED flash and HD video and image recording capabilities. It should also have an 8GB of internal memory, a 5MP front-facing camera, a 2600 mAh battery and run the Android 4.4 KitKat operating system. The new phablet would have the usual 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and USB as connectivity options.

Well, although @upleaks is a reliable leakster we can’t be sure whether HTC is really working on such a device.  We will just have to wait and see. Of course, we will keep you informed about any further developments regarding the device.
