Amazon launches Kindle Unlimited service

Amazon has rolled out a new subscription service named Kindle Unlimited that will allow users unlimited access to over 600,000 e-books and audiobooks(via Audible).The service is available for $9.99 a month as the online giant’s latest effort to expand its services to attract more users.It’s basically a Netflix for reading and listening to books.


Amazon is offering users a free 30-day trial to sample the service, and subscribers will also access a free three-month Audible membership with more than 150,000 audiobook titles available. Other features of Kindle Unlimited include Kindle-exclusive books, thousands of “short reads” that are 100 pages or less, and access to popular Kindle features like X-ray, Whispersync and Goodreads integration.



The move is a switch from Amazon’s latest efforts, which have all been about adding services to its Prime loyalty program. For the company, it’s yet another way to suck people into the broader Amazon ecosystem, which is rapidly expanding with new grocery delivery services, exclusive streaming video, streaming audio and a new advanced smartphone.
