Asus ZenWatch Will Have Voice Command, Says CEO Jerry Shen

It is highly expected that Samsung and LG will reveal their new smartwatches next week in IFA 2014 but, they have new competitor in line also. Samsung and LG have already unveiled their device as Gear S and G Watch R respectively however, Asus is waiting for September 3 and the company will reveal its first smartwatch then. Jerry Shen, CEO of Asus, has revealed a bit about their upcoming device and it has been named as Asus ZenWatch.

As reported by Focus Taiwan, ZenWatch would be available in less than $199; this report was confirmed by the company’s CEO, the source reported. The expected release month of the device is said to be of October in US and other places of the world.

Some sources reported that ZenWatch will have the price tag of $99, but some suggested it to be $149 which seems more realistic price for the device. But when compared with its competitors, the device is still cheap.

As said by the CEO of Asus, their upcoming device will have voice command feature. In start, it will only have English detecting voice recognition. At the start of this year, there were also the rumors about the device having gesture controls but no authentic source has confirmed this news.

The video below depicts that the Asus ZenWatch has a bit of curved display but this curve is not as much as the curve of the Samsung’s Tizen-based Gear S.

Asus Teases Its Zenwatch Launch For September 3

ASUS took to their Facebook page to share a little sketched glimpse of their upcoming Zenwatch, a smartwatch to be launched at IFA in Berlin on 3rd September.

The image tells a few aspects to the smartwatch that are of little surprise at this stage. We can expect at least a partial metal build while terms like ‘sand blasted’ and ‘polish’ imply a raw metal look with a premium metal feel, but that is perhaps a stretch for this simple drawing.

Perhaps the best feature to the new ASUS Zenwatch will be the curvature to the device. Devices like the LG G Watch come with a flat back, leaving the unit to protrude uncomfortably for users with smaller wrists. The curvature of the ASUS watch should make for a more comfortable fit for users of any wrist size.

These truly are exciting times for wearables of the smartwatch variants. LG has been teasing their new smartwatch, only just recently releasing a video that confirms it will have a rounded watch face. Motorola’s long awaited Moto 360 is expected to launch the day after ASUS as well. Best Buy accidentally went live with their listing of the Moto 360 last week, they quickly took the Moto 360 back down, but not before we got all the specs and learned that it would sell for $250.

We are eagerly awaiting some solid specs and pricing information for the ASUS Zenwatch. We have been hearing rumors of ASUS keeping their Android Wear powered offering priced well below that of the competition, with conversation heading as low as $100. Certainly $100 would be a attraction that many users could afford to take the plunge into wearables, but we’ll have to wait to see.

Stay tuned, IFA is looking like it will bring a ton of new devices to marketplace, and we plan to be there to bring you all the details. Are these teaser snapshots getting you excited for ASUS’ new Zenwatch?

Asus teases with a glimpse of its smartwatch ZenWatch in a video

The smartwatch market is getting interesting with more and more companies joining in. Even as Asus prepares to unveil its first smartwatch at the IFA 2014 in Berlin to be held in the first week of September, it has teased us with video of the device. The YouTube teaser video reveals that the upcoming Asus smartwatch will be called the ZenWatch. The name matches with the company’s Zenfone series of smartphones.

About a week back, Asus had teased us with a tweet on Twitter saying that “something #Incredible” was going to happen at the #IFA2014 and had posted a picture of a watch face partially hidden in the shadows with a quote from Khalil Gibran saying “Time has been transformed and we have changed.”

Then the Taiwan-based company put out some teaser sketches of the smartwatch on Facebook with the same Khalil Gibran quote and indicating that they’ll make an appearance “@IFA BERLIN SEPT 3, 2014”.

Here’s one:

And the second one:

The new teaser is just a short 35 second video giving us only a shadowy glimpse of the smartwatch from which we can guess that it is slightly curved. Apart from this, no other information has been leaked about it.

However, according to a leaked report from June, the Asus ZenWatch will probably feature an AMOLED display and will run Android wear. The device is expected to be priced between $99 and $149 which is considerably less than the LG G Watch and Samsung Gear Live.
