It Took One Guy Two Years To Build A Megacity in Minecraft

If you don’t know what Minecraft is, its a game where you gather resources and build things. You can also explore the near endless mass of land in minecraft. Its just a huge world in there.

Players of Minecraft have used Minecraft to express themselves artistically and to build structures from movies, tv shows, videogames, and structures from real life as well.

What you see in these pictures is a Minecraft creation, its called Titan City. This is so insane. The level of detail and the work that went into this is just astounding. What is it that makes people make these things without the expectation of any real reward? Since I have never been able to make something like this, I won’t understand.

The creator of this city is Ducan Parcells. He is an art student, he takes interest in interactive design. He is also known as the YouTube user Colonial Puppet.

The fact that he made all of this on his Xbox 360 is amazing in itself. Once this city is finished, it will be moved to PC and expended even further.

Ducan said regarding Titan City:

[...] all the blocks were hand placed on the map since it’s Xbox but I have over a dozen or so PC buildings set aside for when it’s moved to PC for good and those collectively took like a couple hours with Minecraft edit. I guess the medium is part of the message in this case.

You can download the latest version of this map and check it out for yourself. Here are the download links for both Xbox 360 and PC.

Is This Microsoft’s New Smart Watch?

We have heard many rumors that Nokia and Microsoft are both working on separate wearable tech. The Microsoft rumors seemed believable because of a report that surfaced a couple of days ago. It stated that Microsoft might be getting ready to release a new smartwatch in the near future. Probably within a few weeks time.

It seems that now we have more tangible evidence because Microsoft recently filed for a new device which has also cleared the FCC. This new device could be the next Microsoft smartwatch.

The filing is labeled as “Mobile Wireless Device” but the device only contains Bluetooth LE for connectivity. We know that, devices that only contain bluetooth are usually Bluetooth keyboards and mice. This seems unlikely as Microsoft never goes too deep into accessories.

Another thing is that the device comes in three sizes: small, medium, and large. So, it can’t be a mouse or keyboard. It sounds more like a wearable at least. It could be a fitness tracker or maybe the small sized device will be the fitness tracker, and the others will include a smart watch.

Since Microsoft was also rumored to be working on a fitness device, all three of these could be fitness trackers. I’m sure we’ll find out soon.

Apple iPad Air 2 GPU Outclasses Tegra K1’s GPU

It seems that someone tested the the Apple iPad Air 2 using GFXBench’s 2.7 T-Rex and 3.0 Manhattan’s 1080p onscreen as well as the 3.0 Manhattan’s 1080p offscreen platform. The resulting framerates are surprising to say the least.

The Apple iPad Air 2 looked did better than good in these tests. It even went against the amazingly dominant Tegra K1 chip and other GPUs.

The Tegra K1 with its Kelper GPU was regarded as the most dominant graphics system in the whole Android market. For it to be outdone by the Apple iPad Air 2’s GPU is just unheard of. This is great news for Apple consumers. I have to tell you, I was not expecting this at all. Take a look at these numbers:

The onscreen tests resulted in lower frame rates, which is due to the 1080p local resolution of the iPad Air 2. Still, it managed to beat Xiaomi Mi Pad 7.9 which has the same 1080p local resolution and Tegra K1 inside.

It seems that even though Android products take a lead over Apple products in certain areas. Apple products have earned their place in the market due to the overall value of their products, and of course due to the strong brand recognition that Apple controversially enjoys.

We are excited for the 64-bit Tegra K1 chips and see their performance in the future. How much better will the 64-bit Tegra K1 be than the 32-bit version in the Nvidia Shield Tablet and Mi Pad 7.9. In the mean while, Apple’s dominance continues.

PhotoMath can solve Math Equations using a Phone Camera

Having difficulty in solving a Math equation? No worries, PhotoMath is here. With PhotoMath App, you can use your smartphone to solve mathematical problems. All you have to do is open the PhotoMath app in your mobile phone, point it towards the math equation you want to solve, take its picture and the answer instantly pops up on your screen. Pressing the steps button also gives you the step-by-step solution to the equation.

PhotoMath - 2

PhotoMath is a free app launched recently by Microblink. It is the same company that developed PhotoPay, for easy bill payments. When you scan the bill with the camera of your smartphone, your bank will pay it automatically. PhotoPay is being used by 14 banks in Europe.

The app is currently available for iOS and Windows Phones. iPhone users can download it from iTunes and Windows phone users from the Windows Phone store.  It is not available as yet on Android phones but Android users are expected to get the PhotoMath by early 2015.

PhotoMath supports problems concerning basic arithmetic, decimals, fractions, linear equations and logarithms. However, the app supports only printed problems and not handwritten text. The app is being updated with new solutions being added constantly.

Description of the app in iTunes says, “Children can use it as a tool which helps them to learn Math, while parents can use it to check the homework to their children. With PhotoMath, you can have a Math teacher in your pocket.” While doing homework or learning for a test, you can check the answers quickly and easily without having to turn numerous pages of your book.

The app also has its drawbacks. It can tempt some students to cheat during exams and teachers will have to be extra careful.

New Google’s Email App: Inbox

Inbox is Google’s latest app which is announced recently. It promises you that it will change on how your emails are organized but it does not mean that it will replace Gmail any time soon. With Inbox, the email that you received can be organized with the more important email set in a label and the less important email set in another label. It is also full of features that let you customize your email to your habits and personal organizational strategy.

Inbox is an invite only for now. You can email Google at inbox@google.com to request for an invitation. The current users also can invite other friends from the app or the website but unfortunately the feature is not available yet.

The design of Inbox is cleaner and simpler, the same theme as new Android’s Lollipop. The emails are ordered from the newer email at the top and the older email placed at the bottom. Each message is highlighted, showing attachment such as images, documents or videos to help you give some context so that if there are a lot of emails to be read in a day, you can prioritize which email needed to be read first.

At the bottom of the screen, there is a new simple compose button. When you click on the button, it will show there of most emailed person in the recent period. There is also an option to add new reminder and compose a new message.

Inbox is available on Android or iOS.
