Rumoured economical Nexus smart-phone might come up with the 64-bit MediaTek chip

A latest rumor signaled about Google for having intentions of launching a $100 Nexus smart-phone for emerging markets. And now, something has come up to the surface which strengthens the same rumour as noted from Taiwan that a report stating that Google could go for a partnership with Chinese manufacturer MediaTek to align for the chipset for this handset. It is being believed that Google will try to use a 64-bit chip for this economical Nexus device and MediaTek has two potential contenders with a quad core CPU and a clock-speed of 1.5 GHz and 2.0 GHz respectively, so Google might think of either of these chips.

Update to Android version of WhatsApp lets you silence a group permanently

The new update to the Android variant of WhatsApp takes the messaging app to version 2.11.230 with the highly requested group muting settings.

One of the new features that comes with the update, Group Mute, includes a tongue-in-cheek setting. Whatsapp groups are sometimes annoying for the users and there is no option of permanently muting them. This feature allows you to silence an entire group for as long as a century. Of course, no one knows what the future of tech will be in 5 years, let alone 100, so selecting this option is another way of permanently silencing the group.

The update also allows you to disable notifications from the group by un-checking the “Show notifications” box. And a new camera icon located next to the text input field in chats allows you to take a quick photo to send to one of your contacts, similar to Snapchat.

The new update to the Android variant of WhatsApp is not yet available from the Google Play Store. You  will have to manually download and install the update by heading to the Whatsapp website.

New iOS 8 concept video integrates every key feature that has leaked so far

Recently TechCrunch released a new concept video that gathers up all of the various leaks of iOS 8 that we’ve seen so far and mashes them together. The publication has also imagined a bigger iPhone model that packs a large edge-to-edge display that curiously lacks a Touch ID-enabled Home button.

Healthbook, one of the major iOS 8 applications, has a design similar to what’s available in the Passbook app. The app would sync with the iWatch to gather several health and fitness parameters to help you track your heart rate, blood sugar, hydration, blood pressure, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation, fitness activity, nutrition and sleep.

The video shows a notification app that ditches tab completely while offering quick access to messages, email, calendar and weather. Finally, iOS 8 could also bring Wi-Fi-based CarPlay support and Siri like feature integrated by Shazam.

While this is just a concept based on unconfirmed reports, Apple will unveil iOS 8 and all its major features in early June, at WWDC 2014.TechCrunch’s iOS 8 concept video follows below.

Background Defocus is an imaging app that allows the user to change the depth of the field in the photo. The app allows you to take photographs in a ‘professional style’. Two photos are taken with different focus settings and they can be merged together to bring one object in sharp focus and the background to be blurred.

According to Sony, you will get the best results if you focus on an object by keeping it 15 to 45cm or 0.5 to 1.5ft. away and the background should be at least 5 meters away from it. This may sound a little difficult but once you get the hang of it, it should be ok. Judging the distance accurately will give you excellent results. The latest version of the app makes it somewhat easier.

So if you have a Sony handset with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean or above, you can download the app and try it out for yourself.
