Samsung Galaxy Alpha with octa-core Exynos chipset and 12MP camera to be announced on August 13th

The Samsung Galaxy Alpha has been much in talks these days and recently a Samsung executive confirmed that the company will soon come up with two handsets one of the handsets coming with “new materials” and other with a large display. The larger display one would be the Galaxy Note 4 and Justas spotted yesterday, it could be unveiled on September 3 just before the IFA 2014 Berlin event.

Recent reports coming from a German website AllAboutSamsung says that the Samsung Galaxy Alpha could be announced this month on August 13^th.

The website has also few images for the device which confirms the specs for it. The Samsung Galaxy Alpha will have a model number SM-G850F. the handset is supposed to have a 4.8” display with a 1280×720 pixel resolution and would be powered by an octa-core Exynos 5433 processor which would be more powerful, in terms of performance, as compared to Galaxy Note 3 and the Galaxy S4. The device will be hosting a 12MP primary camera to its back while its front will be having a 2MP secondary camera. The device would have some memory options like a 2GB of RAM, 32GB of non-expandable internal memory. The device would be running the latest KitKat version Android 4.4.4 and is also tipped to have a heart rate monitor as well! The device is supposed to have a more solid built with an aluminum fram around its body.

If these news are to be believed, we are just few days from now when would get to see this much awaited device.

New Sony Xperia Z1 update converts its earpiece into a speaker to give a stereo sound effect

Although Sony Xperia Z2 was not much of an upgrade over the earlier Xperia Z1, it has two stereo speakers at the front that the Xperia Z1 lacks. Xperia Z1 has just a single mono-speaker depriving the users of the stereophonic sound effect.

Now Xperia Z1 owners can rejoice. Senior member dontbelieve of xda-developers has developed an amazing update that gives stereo effect to the sound. The new mod converts the earpiece of the Xperia Z1 into a secondary speaker so that the sound now comes from two speakers rather than the single mono-speaker.

As a result, users can get a stereo sound playback coming through the two speakers, the primary speaker at the bottom of the device and the secondary speaker which is the converted earpiece on the upper side of the handset through which you make calls.

If you want to get the update, it is available at the update thread by dontbelieve at the xda-developers website. The update has been modified to version v2.0 which is available at the dropbox link provided. For Cyanogenmod, you have to install another version, the link for which is provided there. Also, it is a good practice to first take a backup of your files so that if anything goes wrong, you won’t lose anything.

Sony Xperia C3 is to hit the stores in China this month i.e. August. Other international markets will follow later.  The device sports a 5.5-inch 1280 x 720p HD display with Sony’s Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2. It is powered by 1.2GHz Qualcomm Quad-core Snapdragon 400 CPU with Adreno 305 GPU and has 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage expandable up to 32GB with MicroSD card slot. There is an 8MP rear camera with auto focus and LED flash. The handset is LTE enabled and boasts of a 2500 mAh battery. It runs Android 4.4 KitKat.

To Produce Next-Gen Chip for Apple, Samsung Will Replace TMSC

Samsung’s plans

On Wednesday, the analyst of KGI Securities Michael Lui disclosed Samsung’s new plans to the customers. The new plans are about the replacement of TSMC next-gen 14nm smartphone chips that are manufactured for Qualcomm and Apple. According to Michael Liu, Samsung plans to do that during the second half of next year.

On Thursday, two newspapers reported about the ongoing progress between Samsung and Qualcomm. According to Commercisal Times of Korea, Samsung and Qualcomm are already working on the production of these chips. The Economic Daily News says that Samsung has already received orders from Qualcomm for the chips.

Apple goes for TSMC

The chips that are used in Apple iPhone 6 by Apple are manufactured by TSMC. Samsung’s long arrangement to produce these chips came to an end during the second quarter of this year when the A-series chips started to arrive at Apple. Apple and Samsung are the top competitors of the smartphone market with their patent battles continuing for quite some time. To give another blow to Samsung, Apple has decided not to get A8 chips manufactured from Samsung. For this purpose, Apple has selected the TSMC Company. It is expected that the A8 chip is going to be the first chip of its series that will achieve the clock speed of 2GHz.

Speculation and claims

There is a speculation that Apple will get A9 chips manufactured from Samsung. However, the CEO of TSMC Morris Chang claims that his company will rise again in 2016 when Apple will place orders for the A9 chips.

Amazon launches Its Own Mobile Wallet

Amazon has launched its own online wallet service known as Amazon Wallet. The app is available for the Fire Phone and standard Android smartphones via the Play Store.

The idea for the app is to avoid carrying around multiple cards and instead to easily have access to a barcode, QR code, text or image on your phone. Cards entered in the app include loyalty cards, gift cards and membership cards ,with other options yet to come, seeing as the app is in beta at the moment.

How Amazon Wallet works

Amazon Wallet allows users to scan or enter in gift card, loyalty card and membership card information to reduce physical wallet clutter. It makes the cards available in a barcode, QR code, text or image format. Users can also check balances of multiple stored gift cards.

However, the application is in its early stages and does not yet support mobile payments and store debit or credit cards. It only organizes and stores cards whose codes are typically entered at checkout. There is also a website for the Amazon Wallet service, which permits users to log in and enter card information, which then appears in the mobile app.

Online users can manage other payment methods like credit cards, debit cards and checking accounts, and later on use them when shopping on Amazon, though not at point of sale. Although the current version of Amazon Wallet doesn’t have all of the planned features, the app is expected to compete with Google Wallet or PayPal especially when it comes to peer-to-peer payments.

Amazon has had plans to target its merchant customer base in offline local e-commerce as well. The Fire Phone will make this prospect a reality as it allows users to scan and connect online payment services with real world ones.

Sony Xperia Z3 Compact images revealed in a new leak

We have earlier seen leaked images supposed to be those of the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact. Later more pics of the Xperia Z3 emerged. This time the Sony Xperia images leaked are alleged to be those of the Xperia Z3 Compact. If we compare earlier images of the Xperia Z3 Compact with the images leaked now, both appear different. The front-facing camera in the two images is at different positions. We can’t say which image is the correct one.

As for Sony, it has not revealed whether it is going to bring out the compact version of its current flagship the Xperia Z2. Seems like it will directly jump to the upcoming flagship Xperia Z3’s mini version, the Xperia Z3 Compact.  The Japanese mobile maker is hosting a press conference on September 3, a couple of days before the IFA begins. The company might announce its new Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact at the time. IFA 2014 is to be held from September 5 to September 10 in Berlin, Germany.

The Xperia Z3 Compact will reportedly feature a 4.6-inch 1080p screen, 2.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor and Adreno GPU, 3GB RAM, 20.7MP rear camera and 2.1MP front-facing camera. The leaked images have a rectangular frame similar to that of others in the Xperia Z series, with big top and bottom bezels and slim sides.
